Idk, Does enough of that go on to even warrant the concern? I think it has more to do with reduced manufacturing costs for the studios and less shelf space for retail.

unless you really care about both sides, how would the bluray side get messed up? its no more vulnerable than a regular bd. i hate the idea of flippers too but if its the only option for a catalog title i want then ill go for it. it hasnt happened yet but im sure it will. i have an old cd label kit maybe ill make my own cutom label and just cover up the dvd side hahaha

Especially since interest in those catalog titles on DVD is dwindling. By offering a BD and a "future proof" format, Uni can continue to market catalog titles. Otherwise some titles will go out of print due to cost.

And the flipper format is going to have a much higher resale value since it has the BD side.

I would disagree. I think collectors will prefer to have the art rather than the DVD version. I think it's a waste of my money more than anything same with the digital copy thing they are doing now. I love it when they have the 'non-collectors' edition with just the blu-ray disk for $2-$4 less.

When I pointed out what the flipper disc was in my post which was a BD and DVD on a single disc this was the response back:

So dtre81 is confused and thinks the term flipper means a combo pack when in fact it means a combo disc. dtre81 was trying to use Avatar as a reason for the combo pack when the actual reason for Avatar being a combo pack is not to combat the resell of the DVD.

Further, Avatar is not a "flipper" disc and the only studio releasing flippers is Universal. Any other studio releasing a BD/DVD combo is doing a combo pack with a BD disc and a seperate DVD disc.

Just hate. Bad experiences from the DVD and HD DVD era. So far, none of the retail released fliper discs have had any issues.

I was not going to buy the Bourne movies as singles because of crappy dvd on one side. Friggin flippers must die. I ended buy getting the Bourne boxset at costco for 44.95. and no flippers. I would have bought it a long time ago if they didn't over price the boxset. Any movie that comes out as a flipper will never make it to my collection period, I don't care how much I want the movie.

I always did that with the flippers DVD, to cover up the full screen side.
