I was watching "Miracle" last night and seeing Jim Craig in front of the net really took me back to when the traditional "Jason" style hockey masks were used. Are there any hockey experts on here that can answer this??
I vote that the NHL bring them back!! ![]() |

One of the types of helmets used nowadays are the Helmet/Cage combination that was used by such goalies as Chris Osgood, Dominik Hasek, and Dan Cloutier. This style offers more vision with it's wide cage and is lighter because it's made of plastic. But it doesn't offer as much protection against high speed shots.
![]() The newer more common masks are made of fiberglass with a cage attached in the middle and are more equipped to withstand the impact of a puck at higher speeds. ![]() So as you can see the Jim Craig style helmet has been revamped over the years to provide goalies with better vision and protection from high velocity slap shots. |
