Default Can you lay an LCD on its side?

I was hoping to get some advice if possible.

I will be moving soon. I have a 52 inch Sony LCD (true flat screen) and a 50 inch Sony rear-projection LCD (LCD TV with a fat bottom).

Is it safe to lean those TV's diagonally or lay them on their side if need be? Or do I need to ensure they remain in their upright position?

Thanks much in advance for any replies!

I have seen people lay them every which way, and then we have hooked them up and they work fine... personally, I like to keep them upright.... the Circuit City guy had my on its side and I told him to turn it upright, he said it won't damage it, I have never had an issue, but I like to keep mine right side up.... My father in law and brother both had theirs on their backs when taking them home... there wasn't any issues either, but I prefer to keep it upright.

Thanks for your replies. I've been reading mixed opinions on the Net about this. The general consensus is definitely not with plasmas. Some say it is safe with LCD's, some say not.

I'm thinking I might either stand them up in the bed of my buddy's truck, or just have the movers move them--but I'm paranoid about them moving the TV's.

I'm really not sure what the hell to do!

When I had to replace the power supply board I had my TV laid flat for a week. That's the only way you could ever get the back cover off. Wasn't a problem. Just be gentle and wrap it well when you're moving, and don't stack anything on top of it. And I seriously doubt that TVs are kept upright at all times by stores and manufacturers, especially during shipping.
