Default David Prowse (Darth Vader) banned from Lucas Film events

From David Prowse's website:

"It is with regret that I have been informed by my friends at C2 Ventures, Ben and Phillip, that I am not to be invited to C5 this year or any other Lucas Film associated events. After enquiring, the only thing I have been told is that I have "burnt too many bridges between Lucas Film and myself" - no other reason given.

I have also been advised by the promoter of Paris Manga in September that LFL have requested no photo opportunities with the 501 Squadron, even though I am commander in chief of the 501.

Sincere apologies to all my fans who were hoping to meet with me - I shall miss you too. As you will see from my events page I will be at many conventions all over the world so we can still keep in touch."

All the guy wants is some recognition for playing one of (if not the most) iconic movie characters EVER, and Lucas is shutting him down for it. What a bunch of crap.

Typical Lucas gestapo tactics. No one is bigger than Star Wars.

Well, except Georgie of course.

Lame.. My brother gave me as a present a signed and framed Darth Vader picture, signed directly to me "Brother (insert name), I find you lack of faith disturbing" by David Prowse

Dave Prowse is a class act. I had the pleasure of meeting him when he was a guest at the tv station where I work. I even gave him a ride after his interview. A really nice man who deserves some respect.

Unfortunately for him, this is probably his primary source of income. I think it's likely that he did or said something to really piss off TPTB.

Wasn't he accused of leaking some details from one of the SW films and Rubberneck Lucas never forgave him.

I believe the "burning bridges" has to do with the fact that Prowse has not hid the fact that he is upset with with Lucas about replacing his voice as Vader with James Earl Jones (Prowse states that he was not told during production that this was going to happen). Also, he is upset that he was never considered to play Anakin Skywalker when he removes the Vader mask at the end of Return of the Jedi.

I've met Prowse at a comic convention as well, and he is a nice guy. He uses portions of his earnings from these events to support charities for arthritis and prostate cancer, so I think it is very uncool for things to turn out this way. Yet another strike against Lucas and his axis of evil.

I never really considered Prowse to be Vader anyway so this doesn't really bother me.

why am I not surprised? lol It's a shame because he's an iconic figure to the fans. I think everyone is ticked off at George by now..this only makes it worse especially with C5 so close to kicking off.

I understand this. He was trash talking Lucas for a while, about the above-mentioned things, but he also went on the interview circuit while Revenge of the Sith was shooting and totally trashing the film for not hiring him to wear the Vader suit. He even went so far as to say he's the only actor who should ever play Vader and that the character belongs to him.

He just never seemed to understand that he was hired to wear that suit because he's a very tall man. Period. He was a glorified puppeteer. He did a good job, but he should have moved on and not been so angry at everything. Do a play. Develop your actual acting skills. Be thrilled that you have the chance to make a few bucks in movies, something so many dream of but don't have access to.

I think of him more as the man responsible for getting an insanely gangly Christopher Reeve to bulk up for the role of Superman. You should have seen what Reeve looked like before Prowse got him in shape.

My opinion of him is the complete opposite: maybe he had an off day, but the one time I met him, he was an arrogant jerk who was completely disengaged from the fans lining up for his autograph, i.e. someone just going through the paces. Almost no eye contact with anyone, other than one of the show's organizers sitting beside him. That one experience soured my impression of him. Jeremy Bulloch, on the other hand, represented himself and the Star Wars brand perfectly that day.

If Prowse never made a public appearance, it wouldn't bother me in the slightest.

I can guarantee you no matter what actor or actress you are talking about there have been days when they have been great to fans, and days when they have been total pricks.
they are all just human beings just like the rest of us, and they all have their good days and they all have their bad days.
