Yesasia
damn, Im not making a $51 blind buy which would probably come up to $60 with shipping. I'll wait for a cheaper release, but thanks for the heads up!

Actually, it is free shipping for anything over $39. But I agree it is a pretty penny. Considering Manga UK is claiming March (because they are waiting for the US Dub) and there has been no announcement who has secured the US rights, this seems like the only English friendly version coming anytime soon.

FWIW, the 9/10 release date is YesAsia's set date. Per Mighty Media, the official pre-order ship date is 8/27/10 and the official release date is 9/1/10.

Also noticed Taiwan Releases of The Girl who leapt through Time Blu-ray & Jin-Roh Blu-ray. Any more information on those two?

Pre-order listing up @ JS DVD Mall. It will be in-stock starting 9/1/10 shipping directly from Taiwan.

i find JS DVDs postage incredibly expensive. certainly doesn't work easily, in my experience. far prefer to use yesasia on taiwan releases.

Very Nice! I no longer think I can wait for this to be released in the states. Is JS DVD Mall the cheapest to order from? YesAsia's price is kind of high, anywhere else to order from???

Default Japanese Versions

How about the Japanese versions? There's a standard and a two-disc edition for Summer Wars.

On a side note, I had previously purchased the Taiwanese/Proware release of "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time." I want to say that I'm happy with it, but its extras are on a separate DVD whereas the Japanese version has an audio commentary and just about everything on one blu-ray.

The Proware disc has a pop-up menu that can overlap with the subtitle. In the back of my mind I just keep on wondering if I would have been better served (better picture quality etc.) to stick with the Japanese version.

Even more of a reason to wait for a review, as far as I'm concerned.

Default Taiwan Retail

The suggested retail price in Taiwan is $1280 NT, which works out to roughly $40 US/$41 CDN. JSDVD's price is $1190 NT and that's about $37 US/$38 CDN. It is a little lower but still far from the street price, which can be cheaper by about $100-$200 NT ($3 to $6).

While YesAsia has always been reliable, their exuberant pricing is starting to become ridiculous. With them purchasing volume from distributor, their cost should be significantly less than the street price. At $62.99, they are making over 100%+ and are breaking the customers' backs with premium.

That's just lousy. They've never rewarded longtime customers with any discounts nor any type of loyalty program. Sorry... just gotta rant, this kind of insanity has just got to stop!

there's still rare circumstances where i find the price on yesasia matches the general retail prices on sites based within specific countries. usually, in order to make this pay-off, i need to get more than one appearing around the same time, so i can reach the point for free shipping.

as for rewards, it used to be the case you got a $5 voucher if you spent over a certain amount, but last time i though i spent enough to get one, i didn't. at least, it's not appeared yet.

i think that yesasia has undergone some restructuring beneath the surface in recent times. used to be that they'd ship from one place to a location in croydon for us UK buyers, but these days they seem to ship directly out from somewhere in HK. they're also stopped listing hardcore japanese pornography, but, since i never bought any it's not really affected me.

it's always been the case that it's hard if not impossible to second-guess which retailers benefit which purchases. each of us have our criteria and concerns. personally, if i can bypass paying duty, paying slightly over the odds initially works out very well, but it's often a case of careful calculations working out if this is actually the case from proposed order to order.

The Japanese release is not English friendly but otherwise it's very good. The original release was a 2-disc edition with all kinds of physical extras but later on they released it as a more plain single-disc edition as well. I think most people here want the English subs that the Taiwanese release provides. I got the original Japanese 2-disc release but without the physical extras (from an auction).
