As an avid fan of MDs (MiniDiscs) and for the prospective use of BDs, I was wondering if anyone would have any info indicating the use of blue lasers in future MD technology seeing how Sony developed MDs and are now members of the BDA. Imagine what blue lasers in MDs could mean!

![]() Hi BD -> MD, a lot has been written on the potential of applying blu-ray technology within the minidisc form factor, with a 24GB double-sided, dual-layer variant called High Density Minidisc [HDMD] discussed with Sony in early 2003 and later on the web - for example, see the numerous related postings and polls available at: http://blu-raytalk.com/forums/viewfo...083b21f869b0ca ![]() and further discussion - including longer term potential under the Kind of blu posting at: http://www.avtalk.co.uk/forum/index....22761&start=15 ![]() There is also related discussion at the above site on, for example, the potential for very high resolution digital audio by exploiting entropic compression coupled with very high sample rates - this may also be exploited with near IMAX quality displays in the home at (relatively) modest data-rates on, for example 200GB quad-layer double-sided BD or 50GB quad-layer double-sided HDMD... ![]() |

Are there any plans for a "mini-blue-ray" media size, ala the 8cm CD/DVD formats?
It would seem ideal for camcorders and other devices where the standard 12cm form factor is just too large. Even if a camcorder only supported standard def writing, it'd allow for great quality and long recording times. |

There ARE small forms of Blu-ray already!
For use in PDA and mobile phones... This is a good thing :-) |
