Default preamp out question

I found a Technics SH-TX200 THX control preamp but it has a single mini jack that was used to send audio to the matching amp or amps when it was new.My question is if I use a y cord with the mini on one end and two rca's on the other will it send a stereo signal to my power amp?

Wouldn't that be a mono signal split into 2?

No...Because if it's a stereo mini plug with 2 rings on the shaft.(like ipod head phones). One lead would be for the left channel the other for the right. If on the other hand you're using a mono mini plug with 1 ring on the shaft, then you would be splitting a mono signal.

I believe so....... I'd really like to get a look at the control amps back panel.
Can you upload a picture either here or in your gallery?

Good morning

I just saw the back panel of the control amp........I've got one question for you. Why would you use a mini jack to go to your power amp when you have a full compliment of RCA jacks to use? They're labled output. There's L/R front & rear, Sub & Center.

Now let me see the back panel of the Power amp you wish to use.

I would avoid using the mini jack. In my opinion the stereo mini jack is one of the worst audio inventions ever made. They seem to eventually have problems outputting one or the other side.

I too am trying to understand why he wants to use a mini plug as his output.

Well I am going to use it for stereo listening.I has opticals out where my current preamp has analog rca's.Since I am going to be using what I consider front l/r I don't see why that would'nt work,

Don't you mean.... Optical inputs....

Sounds come from the source ie.(CD, DVD, Blu-ray & LD players) = outputs, and go to the Pre/Pro = inputs. Which then outputs the signal to the power amps input, Which in turn outputs the signal to your speakers.

Got it
