Lightbulb What's going to be the best looking Blu-Ray this year?

The best looking Blu-Ray so far is Avatar, I think that Scott Pilgrim's Blu-Ray release could challenge it.

What do you guys think?

Inception for best of the year. If by some miracle, Zack Snyder's new movie makes it to blu by the end of the year, maybe that.

Just guessing mind you, but I think Iron Man 2 has a shot if it looks as good or better than the first one.

Inception will look great, but I don't think it will be the best looking, it isn't really visually stunning, as for Zack Snyder, he has his animated Owl movie coming out, that looks like a good-looking movie

I agree; if Inception releases on Blu this year, it could be a challenger to Avatar. Then again, with the Alien Anthology releasing, I can't be sure exactly which Blu will look the best.

Anyways.... I think Blu-ray makes CGI filled films LESS enjoyable..... As far as 'color array' I often wonder how much of Avatar's PQ praise comes from the 'color' aspect, and how much of it is due to actual fine-detail and resolution.....

Colors aside, the visual effects and musical score alone are enough reason for Inception to be best blu of the year.

I agree, there isn't much colour in Avatar either, but it's still the best looking film this year on Blu, and it has much more colourful moments than Inception that's for sure,
[Show spoiler]like the 1st dream world is blue and raining, the 2nd is brown and orange, and the last is great and white, I think it'll look stunning, but it won't be the best.

Probably some documentary...

Really, it's impossible to guess. A lot of titles so far have turned out better or worse than anticipated. 'Inception' has a lot of potential, what with using some 65mm footage, but going on track record it will probably be a Disney title.

Avatar will be seen as the best, no doubt about that. Inception will be strong like all of Nolan's other films. Any criticism will probably be the result of the cinematography and not the transfer itself. I'm looking forward to the audio of Iron Man 2 more, i noticed how great it was in the cinema, hopefully it'll come across on Blu.
I'm curious about Toy Story 3, will it be released like A Christmas Carol in 3D and how will that look?

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say Alien Anthology, at least Alien and Aliens. I don't think Scott or Cameron would sign off on anything that could be construed as crap...

If Danny Boyle's film is released in 2010, it'll be the best looking film and BD of 2010.

are we talking about 'new' movies because at this point Criterion's 'The Red Shoes' takes the cake.

Scott Pilgrim?!? Movie hasn't even come out in theaters yet. A little premature don't you think? And plus, I mean, do you honestly think it's going to be a good movie?

It's the most visually stunning movie since Avatar.

I think it's really humorous that you are both trying discuss movies that haven't even come out in theaters yet.

Ok...

Speculation is ok, but there's a difference between speculation and fanboyism. Speculation is like saying that Inception could be the best blu-ray of the year whenever it's released, if it's released in 2010. Coming to that conclusion is reasonable because we have the likely scenario of WB treating Inception like TDK and possibly including IMAX scenes.

However, fanboyism is like saying, "I don't know anything about this movie other than it's directed by my favorite director and it's not even out in theaters yet, but I'm sure it'll be blu-ray of the year!" Zack Snyder's owl movie is in the same boat along with Scott Pilgrim. It's like saying [I]Social Network/I] is going to be blu of the year because I'm a fan of Fincher's movies...Fight Club and Zodiac look great, which they do.

People are acting like these movies have been filmed on 70 mm IMAX cameras and they're waiting to wowed in the theater.
