United Kingdom Looking for affordable region free blu player in UK

This will be mainly for the criterion collection and some tv series which are region locked, anyone have any decent ideas?

I have had a good look but the only one seems to be the Oppo player which is out of my pricing range.

Are you talking about the Oppo 83?

If so, the Oppo 80 is a fair bit cheaper.

Errm, the Curtis DVD1100UKT is a Region Free Player for Blu-ray/DVD and can be bought for anything between £50 - £80. Have a check around supermarkets as well as Curry's and PC World as they seem to be the main stockists.

I too am suffering with this problem, and time is ticking down till that criterion Thin Red Line ships. . .

I've been doing some digging the last few days and this is what I've found.

To save anyone else from digging around doing similar research, the above mentioned Curtis/Tevion DVD1100UKT seems to be a good idea but has vanished from stores (little surprise following the amount of people who reported the Curtis model not working at all). I've checked a few supermarkets (Tesco, Aldi, Currys) and can't find anything online. If anyone can prove me wrong please do!

The Maidston MD-BR-2102 is cheap but due to a firmware issue it's 50/50 as to weather the one you buy will be able to be converted to Multi Zone Blu at all. The Foehn & Hirsch BD2101 is hard to get hold off (ebay probably best bet), but also has a firmware issue that destroys the mutli region blu option.

This just leaves us with the higher priced options such as the Oppo 80 at around £300 and upwards, and the grey market but good word of mouth Multiregion Magic http://www.mrmdvd.com/catalog/ for around the same price.

So, no affordable hope in sight that I can see! I'm going to wait until September to see if another affordable option floats to the surface, before deciding if I then have to bite the bullet and fork over large amounts.

Anyone else got any leads?

Not looked into it. I would imagine that once you factor in the cost of shipping a player from amazon.com, even for a semi cheap model, you'd probably be better off spending another £100 and getting one of those Multiregion magic jobs. But that's just speculation.

Anyone with experience of importing a US player?

Update: I've decided to use Multiregion magic to mod my existing Panasonic DMP-BD60MR. Will report back on the results!

I'm interested aswell and can't really find anything but 2 from the site posted above

http://www.mrmdvd.com/catalog/produc...oducts_id=1171

and

http://www.mrmdvd.com/catalog/produc...oducts_id=1172

the rest are region free for DVD's not for BD's as it says.

The thing is that those two are 400 pounds, the other option i thought a while ago would be getting a region A ps3 player for US. that way i'd have two PS3 to play region A and region B, it's cheaper even counting on the shipping from US, but the hassle to use two players each time makes me want just a region free player, and that goes back to the 400 pounds which in euros is damn expensive.

decisions, decisions... hmmmm

Although I haven't had a chance to check if it works yet (won't do until Thin Red Line Criterion arrives next month), I can certainly say that MultiregionMagic's service was pretty good. I sent 'em a few emails with some questions and they responded quickly, and the delivery and return of my modded player was prompt.

Just checked the site, you can get a multiregion blu player from £300 (plus a tenner for shipping). Still a fair wack but cheaper than £400!

I got the Oppo-80 and i'm thrilled with it. Used the money difference between the oppo 80 and 83 to buy region B titles

If you can afford it, you'll get a nice universal player with great load times, very good upconversion and easy to mod. Converts PAL to NTSC and the reverse. Love mine

I did the same. I bought mine already modified for me so I wouldn't have to mess with it.

Is there anything out there that comes region free for blu's and dvd's without needing to be modded?
