Alright I have a (DCM sub 2) from 1993, it's hooked up to a newer unit (integra DTR-40.2). It is connected by a Y adapter(rca), unit out to L + R in. With no sound it repeatably pops, sounds like dripping water in a sink? I have tweaked the volt and volume nobs on the sub, to no success? With sound present it works fine, what in the hell is causing this noise?

If the sub driver and the sub amplifier are not defective, my guess is that you may have ground hum or other noise sources that are causing the problem. Read this thread. It may help.

Ughh!! ok so I tried a different plug (different wall), same thing. I do want to upgrade to a newer sub later and this would really detour me from wanting one if this continues. It does make sence that this occurs with all of my electronics on the same surge protector, and possibly room? But how can I be the only one?

Try one of these it worked for me if it is in fact a ground loop Hum and not too pricey either

I'm thinking about getting that isolator, it's a good chance to none.
My sub is fine, it works when I listen to music or movies, just without sound it sounds like constant water dripping (2-3 per sec.). ![]() |

Actually the grounding is what causes the HUM this breaks that continuous ground loop and allows the HUM to go away. I would caution first before purchasing though to make sure you actually have a ground loop HUM. I would start by having all devices plugged in make sure the sub is not in standby and disconnect the audio cable to the sub if the noise continues it is not likely a ground loop HUM could be you may need a line conditioner on the outlet feeding the SUB or as has been implied could be an actuall problem with the sub (amp, Driver or internal circuitry.)

Before this current sub I had a HT in box set-up, it worked fine. This sub was a hand down from helping a friend move so who knows? I think I will sell it to another friend of mine who dicked me on a game I let him borrow.
