United Kingdom Huge 3D price drop

Well in the UK main sheep feeder pc-world & currys are doing 25% off all 3d-tv. Oww how I laughed, then again good news for anyone wanting to join in on this gimmick.

Default Sony Panoramic 3D

Does anyone have one of the new Sony cybershot, NEX or Alpha model cameras that do the 3D panoramic sweep pictures?

I got to see a cybershot today and the guy showed me it on a Sony TV in 3D and it was kinda cool, but I wonder if the higher end Alpha 55 takes much clear and better 3D panoramic pictures?!

If anyone uses these cameras, can you upload some 3D pictures from it to here that I can try on my Sony TV and also post which camera you used please?

Post Sociological essay on 3D Cinema - Help?

Hey folks,

I'm writing this paper on changes within the cinematical industry caused by the apparition of 3D technology.

It's in three parts.

- Economical structure: production companies; new costs, new economical, legal or organisational constraints.

- Production: changes in filming conditions, in ways of working with actors, in the rhythm of the different steps of filming and post-production; the apparition of new trades and craftsmanship?

- Reception: what attracts the public most; changes in the chronology of the distribution of the 3D movie; changes between projecting in 2D and 3D, how the public reacts to those changes; what the public thinks of the movies; what the public expected from the movie, what was well done or not so good.

(This question sort of goes in all 3 categories: Can all films be shot in 3D?)

Anyway, if any of these questions inspire you guys, I'd really appreciate the help. Even if it's just links towards articles or books I would be interested in reading.

Thanks in advance!

Question Blu-ray 3D software players: decoding 7.1?

A.F.A.I.K. there are currently 4 software players that are able to play Blu-ray 3D discs, however, none of them seem to be able to decode and output both DTS-HD MA 7.1 as well as Dolby TrueHD 7.1 ; is that correct?

I think the following applies:
- Cyberlink, PowerDVD-10 Ultra 3D Mark II: decodes TrueHD 7.1, but DTS-HD MA only upto 5.1 channels
- Arcsoft, TotalMedia Theatre 5: seems to be able to decode 7.1, but outputs only upto 5.1 channels over HDMI
- Corel, WinDVD Pro 2010: no mention of DTS-HD MA or 7.1 anywhere, so I suppose it doesn't decode that
- Sonic / Roxio, CinePlayer BD with 3D: no mention of any lossless codec, so probably no decoding/output of 7.1

Since I have several BD's with 7.1 audio (in DTS-HD MA, TrueHD, or LPCM), can anybody confirm one or more of the above, and give me a link/source of that info

Alternatively, if there is indeed no player that can output decoded 7.1 audio, can any of the 4 mentioned players then at least bitstream 7.1 audio through the HDMI-port (preferably with link)

United Kingdom Total 3D Source

Hi,

I was browsing 3D content on eBayUK and came across a link for a company called, Total 3D Source. I think it's a US site since the asking price is just under $40.00. I'm reluctant to join until I can find any sort of information on them. It says that once you join you can download 3D content(movies and the like) in the official 3D or side-by-side as well as anaglyph. I'm guessing here but I reckon that 40 dollars is a membership fee but you'll still have to pay for each download.

So, can anyone shed any light on them? Has anyone had an experience with this company, either good or bad?

Please help if you can.

John.

Default Good Houskeeping puts five 3D TVs to the test

http://abclocal.go.com/kgo/story?sec...ide&id=7875100

Quote:
SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- With all the after-Christmas sales, chances are you could get a good deal on that TV you've been holding out for.

Good Housekeeping looked at which 3D TVs are worth checking out.

Those 3D movies we've all been watching in the theater can now also be enjoyed in our homes. So, the engineers at Good Housekeeping tested five 3D TV sets.

"We looked at picture quality and audio quality, and then we had a consumer panel come in and help us judge how easy and comfortable the 3D glasses were and look at different features on them," says Rachel Rothman with Good Housekeeping.

The testers liked the Samsung 50-inch 3D set. It's able to convert any 2D content into 3D. It's a plasma set which means it can be viewed from all angles. The 50-inch Panasonic plasma 3D also made Good Housekeeping's top 3 list. It got especially high marks for sound quality.

"The 47-inch LCD TV by LG did really well in our tests in terms of picture quality for both 3D content and non-3D content. Users also found it extremely intuitive and easy to use," Rothman said.

3D content is limited right now, but it will continue to grow along with the popularity of the 3D TVs.

Default Sky 3d - uk

First of all apologies if this is being discussed elsewhere on the forum but I could not find it - if it is could a kind mod please move it.

I just thought for the UK readers wondering of they should get this I would say go for it.

Lets get one thing clear off the bat - I dont like Sky as a company - any support or information I have had in the past has been unclear and if you ring three people there they will all give you different information. Their prices are over the top too considering that most of the channels are just endless repeats and if it wasn't for the kids channels for my son/sports and now 3D (which they make you buy the full package at £60 a month) I would cancel and just get free view.

That aside the actual 3D is very good and I will run through a couple of things I have watched lately:-

Football - The graphics really pop out at you and also the crowd shots (this is the shots looking at the crowd and also the shots from the crowd). It really feels like you are sat there looking onto the pitch. Dont expect anything to really pop out at you though e.g. a ball flying out of the screen (obviously they couldn't do this all of the time but on certain camera shots).

Rugby - I am not a fan really but watched just because it was on. The camera feels closer and lower down to the action - this would be because its slower paced than the footy. Given this it looks even better than the football.

Darts - This does look good and the darts fly out of the screen at you. Granted its only a split second because of the speed but it looks good.

Avatar - This was great. I was gutted that I couldn't get it on blu-ray but thanks to me being able to record it on sky + I can now watch it whenever I want. I found the quality really good and the picture was much clearer than when I watched at the cinema even on my little 40 inch Samsung.

Documentaries - These are not my cup of Tea but again I watch them because they are in 3D. They do look good and the depth is really clear to see.

There isnt all that much on there at the moment but to be fair they seem to add something new at least once a week and the sports are always showing new things of course.

Just thought it would be nice for those pondering if it should be picked up to have a little review.

Cheers

Panasonic/Verizon FiOS stream full HiDef 3D

No longer is full Hi-Def 3D available only from a pre-recorded Blu-ray Disc on a TV; Panasonic is engaged in a technical collaboration with Verizon’s FiOS TV service to stream full-resolution 3D via the telco’s fiber-optic lines to a Panasonic Blu-ray 3D player.

Default Home Theater Blogs?

Kind of a random question. Anyway, my wife reads tons of blogs, mainly about cooking and runners etc. Most of them are from the point of view of one individual person and their day to day lives.

I don't really read any blogs but it makes me wonder if there are any good blogs out there that revolve around home theater/movies/tech/gaming stuff in general. All I can find are website blogs which just update their articles.

Does anyone know of any good home theater type blogs that are really just written by individuals who are true home theater geeks?

Default Why 3D causes some people headaches

Quote:
3-D screens and glasses create the illusion of depth by showing different images to each eye. That simulates the way objects that are at different distances in real life appear in slightly different places in each eye's field of view.

That's enough for most of us to perceive a scene as having depth. But our eyes also look for another depth cue in a scene: They expect to need to focus at different distances to see sharply.

More specifically, our eyes track an approaching object by turning inward, toward our noses. Bring something close enough, and we look cross-eyed. 3-D screens also elicit this response when they show something approaching the viewer.

The problem is that as the eyes turn inward, they also expect to focus closer. But a screen isn't moving closer, so the eyes have to curb their hard-wired inclination and focus back out. This mismatch between where the eyes think the focus should be and where the screen actually is forces them to work extra hard.

"That causes at least part of the discomfort and fatigue that people are experiencing," says Martin Banks, an optometry professor at University of California, Berkeley.

The problem is magnified if the screen moves close to the viewer - exactly what's happening if 3-D viewing moves from the movie theater to living rooms to game gadgets like the 3DS.

There is at least anecdotal evidence of a growing problem. David Hays, an optometrist in University Place, Wash., says patients came in after seeing "Avatar," complaining of eyestrain or the inability to see the 3-D effect. He expects to see more as the technology spreads.

Roger Phelps, an optometrist in Ojai, Calif., says viewers who suffer the most with 3-D are those who have trouble getting their eyes to converge properly in normal life.

"If you tend to get carsick easily, you might be one of those," Phelps says.

Default Is the new Panny BDT-100 works with Samsung HL67A750?

A customer of mine wants me to make his 3D samsung DLP to work. Im wondering if this new player works along with Xpand 102 3D glasses together. Does anyone have this same setup with all these models combined? If so, is there anything I should know about a specific setting in the menu of either devices? Thanks in advance!

Default Has anyone used NXG Active shutter glasses?

NXG Technology NX-3DG Active Shutter Type 3D Glasses

The reviewers on Amazon like them, and the price is way nicer than some, but I'd love some feedback from people on the board.
Particularly if you've used them with a Samsung plasma. Do they have the same cutting out issues that the Samsung glasses do?

How do they compare (if you know) with the Xpand Universal offerings? (other than being cheaper).
