I have been keeping a close-eye on Park Chan Wook's Vengeance Trilogy Set for the longest time. I would have pulled the trigger if not for Palisades Tartan's enormous mess-up and their current unethical handling of the situation, or lack thereof.
In the set, the Oldboy disc is missing 7.1 TrueHD audio. In place is a lossy 5.1 track, and this is despite 7.1 listed as spec on the back cover. I was browsing through Amazon.ca today and stumbled upon the following... http://www.amazon.ca/Vengeance-Trilo...1308142&sr=1-3 Listed as October 5, 2010 release. Scroll down and it has Alliance Films listed as the distributor. I don't know. I feel scared and excited at the same time. Here's hoping the Oldboy audio problem is fixed, and that everything else is on par with Palisades Tartan. For those who have already purchased the P-Tartan set from Amazon.ca, how's the Oldboy audio? Can someone verify whether 7.1 has been put back or is the problem still unfixed? Thanks. Oldboy is only a single disc in the alliance package, but is the same Disc one from the original 2-disc Tartan release. It does have the 7.1 dtsma track

Well, not exactly the same disc one. It retains the 7.1 sound but it also has all of the extra features which were previously on a separate disc.

Anyone has more info about this boxset please?!
I am wondering if it's the same transfer than the U.S. Tartan trilogy boxset... Anyone can confirm?! Thanks in advance |

I'm certain it would have the Alliance logo(s) as well. For the past couple years they have not just been taking the US disc & placing different packaging on a release (they did this for a long time, & never even bothered to change packaging during the HD DVD days).
They tend to create a new disc entirely, with Alliance preview trailers etc, so they likely gather all data from another source & meld it with their own stuff (7.1 track for Oldboy in this case). |

Really enjoyed this blu-ray set of the vengeance trilogy. While the OOP Palisades Tartan set is prettier as a blu-ray set, this one is more practical especially as it has the corrected lossless audio for Oldboy.
I think it's probably the best version of these movies on blu-ray. |

It's been out for a while. I have it. There was initially a LE box set designed to look like the infamous elevator from Oldboy that sold out. It was followed by a standard box set reissue. I've only see Oldboy from the set so far, and it looks fantastic.

Also, if you’re a Park Chan-wook fan (like me) then I don’t see a reason not to get the whole trilogy if you can play it. |
