One issue I am having.
Ok I have a PS3 with external 400gb drive connected to it. I have a little over 10,500 mp3's on it. I love it but........ Everytime I start my PS3 and access my music it takes a long time to see all the songs. The songs will pop up here and there over time if I just let it sit there looking at the music folder. If I start listening to music it will only play what it has detected up to that point. Sucks! So they released a firmware that will let you create a playlist. I though great I will let it scan for hours and then put all my songs in a playlist and then next time I start the PS3 they should all play.....but NO it will only let me create a playlist if the music is on the internal PS3 drive. SO...... Do I upgrade the drive in the PS3?? I have about 110gb of music or does anyone think SONY will release a new firmware someday allowing you to create a playlist from music that is on a external drive. Sorry so long but I really hate that it has to scan my drive everytime to see my music. |

I would suspect not for #3 .. given the extra complications of associating a "shortcut" to a removable device, where the contents can change without the playlist knowing that has occurred. What happens if you put in another device? How do the playlists match up? Scanning the whole drive? The internal drive makes it "easy" since it's always there and deletions etc can be synchronized etc. I guess they could write the playlist to the external device behind the scenes..but then they'd probably be accused of installing spyware in your disk ![]() ![]() Btw the largest partition at this point on a PS3 is 205GB..if your collection is continuing to get larger you might want to consider a DLNA server..some drive manufacturers are building pure DLNA servers..this is one of many .. http://www.qnap.com/images/products/.../TS109AP08.htm No experience with this one to say how well it does or doesn't work.. |

One other benefit of the DLNA server approach. If you plan on having multiple PS3's in the future
![]() Will the current PS3 ever be a DLNA server with a FW update- or will there be a higher end PS3 server as a different SKU? Don't know but they seem possible down the road. Last edited by ps3andlovinit; 11-21-2007 at 12:51 AM. Reason: changed server to update |

That’s one thing that I love about this machine (PS3). Since my laptop is ALWAYS on (half the time it’s in hibernation mode), I have access to my thousands of songs through my network on my PS3.
No need for a bigger hardrive. ![]() |
