Arrow BATMAN: Arkham Asylum Sequel. Fall 2011.

Was Arkham Asylum good? I'm not a big fan of fighting games, but as long as it's not tooooo linear I'd give it a shot.

The sequel, Arkham City looks badarse, albeit with a very short teaser.

I found the game very repetitive and pretty linear. Really fun game though but I don't really see myself going to play it again anytime soon.

I know I still really liked the game but it seemed to be go here fight and repeat and repeat with some boss fights thrown into it.

Yes, it was good. But you don't need us to tell you that - there are tons of positive reviews out there. Although the game is in somewhat of a sandbox world that you can go back and explore (partially during the game and completely once you beat the final boss), the storyline in story mode is definitely linear. Although there's plenty of fighting, I wouldn't call it a "fighting game" because there's plenty of other stuff to do as well.

You're leaving out all of the predator rooms, riddler challenges, gadget usages, etc.

I don't see the hype behind this game. Batman is one of my favorite DC characters and that was the main reason I wanted to try this game. I enjoyed the grappling, silent take downs, and playing around with the Batman gadgets. The graphics and the audio are pleasing but the gameplay...not so much.

The game forces you to double track so often it's annoying and the boss fights are non-existent (aside from Ivy and maybe Bane), especially the one vs the mastermind of the whole asylum take over. I swear, if the character was not Batman, people would be giving this game a lower rating than what it has right now (92% on Gamerankings).

I thought it was an awesome game and will most likely be picking up the sequel on day one.

Same thoughts exactly. Finally, a good Batman video game!

How so? The game has a linear storyline, but the world in which it takes place is a contained "sandbox" so the story may take you back to locations you've been before. Why is that a bad thing?

While I didn't care all that much for the final boss fight (Titan Joker), it certainly existed, as did Killer Croc (probably my favorite one in the game), among others.

I disagree wholeheartedly. If anything, I think it was under more scrutiny because it's a license game and managed to win over critics anyway. The gameplay is fantastic, thanks to a lot of variation with every element executed well:
-- an easy-to-understand, hard-to-master fighting engine
-- predator rooms that required cunning and unique stealth tactics
-- puzzles that require creative use of batman's gadgets
-- riddler challenges that require additional thought, exploration, and awareness
-- engrossing and creative Scarecrow encounters
-- etc

The game captures Batman's many sides: the brute force fighter, fear-inducing stealth predator, and highly intelligent detective with extremely impressive balance. Its critical praise is well-deserved.

Playing this right now for the first time, i really like it but i agree it is VERY repetitive and VERY linear. Still a good game and probably the best batman game i have played. Good to hear a sequel is planned though.

After playing through twice and unlocking all the challenges i gotta say this is a very solid game, and does not seem as repetitive on the second play through, i just spent so much time over searching for things and crawling back and forth in the same vents it just seemed that way.

Awesome fight system btw. One of the better ones i have seen to pull off some really cool takedowns of multiple enemies.

If I can peel myself away from my Mass Effect 2 obsession (5 playthroughs, how much longer will it last? ) then I'll check this game out. Thanks for all your input!

Very cool Game Informer Covers for their cover story on Arkham City (the last one is the issue I received):
