I've gone through every single troubleshooter on the Xbox website. Mine always shows up as "moderate". It makes no sense because if I plug the ethernet cable (which my 360 is plugged in to) into my PS3 it shows my Nat Type as "open". Is the 360 (Elite 250GB Splinter Cell bundle one) just limited in that way?
It really bothers me because I can't join anyone else's party in some game. It just says I need to open my NAT type. |

I manually assign my 360 an IP address within the range of the DHCP, normally one near the top of the range, then I go into my router and put that address into the "DMZ" it will then show as "open". No traffic will be filtered going to or from the 360.
Hope this helps. Bill PS: make sure to power cycle the router and 360 after you do this. |

I will have to try that if what I tried last night doesn't work.

What kind of router do you have? If it doesn't properly handle UPnP, you have to manually open ports. Putting the 360's IP address in the DMZ works... but it actually opens ALL ports and isn't a great plan for security purposes (especially with some of the recent exploits shown off that let consoles open the door to hackers).
What you can do is this: Assign your 360 a static IP address. Then on your router, find PORT FORWARDING. You need to forward ports 88 and 3074 (just those two ports - not 88 through 3074 - so you may have to do separate filters for each port) to your 360's IP address for Live to show open NAT. Save your changes, reboot the router, turn on your 360, and you should be good to go. The DMZ thing works... but it also leaves your router open to people pinging random IP addresses to log them for future use, whereas the port forwarding will let your router block all external ping requests unless they're to those specific ports. |

Put all the routers security to minimum/off, for me even just encrypting the wifi on my router with a hex key turned it from the awesome kind of open to locked down.
