I just dont understand why there are remakes of already great movies out there? Why can't people just watch the original? It's 1 thing if the original is just so-so and you want to improve on it but if the original is already great why should it be re-made? I hope dearly that no-one pays to see Let Me In in the theaters and tells all their friends that want to see it to just watch the original instead and from here on out keep people from giving money to hack directors who cant come up with their own ideas and are ruining already great pieces of art

The thing (1982) Cape Fear (1991) Dracula (1992) The Fly (1986) Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978) Scarface (1983) Here are 6 films that most people would agree are good films, even though the original was already good if not great. There are lots of other examples as well. I have come to the conclusion over the last few years to forget about a film as a remake and just go and see it as if it was an original work. How can you tell if Let me In is going to be a worse film than the original unless you go and see it. I liked the original but am will to sit through the remake. Remakes/reboot/copies have been around since cinema first started. Every generation as this need to rework a movie they first saw as a kid. Beside most movies or stories are in some sort or another influence by something the writer/director saw or read when he was younger. Movies that are made in one country are then rework to be made into a American style, been going on for years as well and Hollywood is not the only guilty part of that.
What I am always so surprise is by how much people get so worked up and mad with remakes. I don't quite get that? It's not like the original is being discarded, it's still there to be enjoyed if that is the version you so loved. If the new generation would rather watch the remake, so what? It's not as good as the original? Most of the time that is the case yes but it's not up to me to educate these kids in trying to expand their cinema taste. I was curious and went out of my way to discover other style of movies outside of Hollywood, if people can't or won't do it then it's really not my problem. |

I do have to say though, it seems like shedloads of remakes are planned these days. "RoboCop," "Logan's Run," "Dune," possibly "The Fantastic 4," in addition to recent releases like "Clash of the Titans," "Karate Kid," and probably many others I forgot about, all seems like a bit much. To say nothing of all the planned sequels. |

![]() And please don't try to to tell me that "People who may have never seen the original may have the whole experience ruined for them by the remake." Look, if they haven't seen it by now then chances are they were never going to get around to watching it. The originals are still there, you can watch them and enjoy them anytime you want. A remake doesn't change a bloody thing about it. |

I generally have a problem with remakes but that is only when the film is rubbish or not much new has been done. There are examples of great films that came from remaking the original:
The Thing Ransom The Day the Earth Stood Still Scarface The Departed These are the best examples of remakes working and in my opinion they better the originals. |

I view remakes as I view cover songs. If they're good, they're a nice alternative to the original songs (and in some cases I like them better than the original). If they're bad, I always have the original to listen to and enjoy.
Add Heat to that list. It's a great remake of the pitiful L.A. Takedown (both by Michael Mann). |

Yeah it's getting real old hearing people complain and ***** about remakes. If you hate them just watch the original. Also they make them because young people don't want to watch a 20+ year movie it's just the way the world works.

They also make them because the remakes of the last 5 years make money. Obviously someone somewhere is watching them. |

To me, remakes are situational. If the original sucked, then bring on the remake! Some remakes have been good (examples given previously), some not so good (Clash of the Titans). It depends on the original and the remake. I think a remake is truly only justified if a new perspective can be told (not just a shot-for-shot remake) or if the new effects can truly improve the story.

While i can see your point on now liking the remakes... how exactly does a remake ruin the original? thats the aspect of peoples views i will never understand...i dont mind remakes... most of the time they arent very good and actually make you appreciate the original that much more... but then once in a while the remake will actually be really good! |
