Blu-ray / DVD combo steelbooks (G1 size) - Blu-ray Forum

So I've been spotting these on e-bay and they are official steelbooks according to G&M (also G1 sized).

From what I understand they are being sold in Media Markt stores. Have any of our German members bought a copy and opened it up?

Hope this isn't a trend - or if these steelbooks are just repackaged DVD steelbooks...

Looks like to me it's an official release and not a repack job - I see the blu-ray logo on the back along with bd-live. Also saw a picture on e-bay that has the DVD logo and blu-ray logo on the spine.

Also - is that just black plastic on the inside?

The best part is that the Death Race looks pretty similar to the original MM release on first glance.

it just kills the value of the original one, they are over saturating the market with garbage.

At this point, I've only seen people say that they are sold in Media Markt stores. You can't buy from them online.

the king kong one looks fine for me since there isn't any king kong steelbook from other country released.

The original blu-ray one is debossed with artwork inside it, and I think the original dvd only SteelBook was the same. This one does not have any debossed cover that I can tell, and I'm willing to bet they used a black insert so that they would not have to add interior artwork. You are right in that it is similar, but it just seems like a cheap knock off and poor attempt at appealing to SteelBook Collectors. Scanavo really has no idea what they are doing if this is where they are going with their SteelBooks. How hard would it have been to give this new blu-ray/dvd release some new artwork to differentiate it from the original blu-ray SteelBook or even the original dvd SteelBook?
