United Kingdom Room in Rome (Julio Medem)

Spanish director Julio Medem's (Sex and Lucia) latest film Habitación en Roma a.k.a Room in Rome (2010) has received a preliminary release date: October 18th.

PRE-ORDER:

Official site and trailer:
http://www.juliomedem.org/habitacionenroma/index.html

Sean Axmaker:
Quote:
Room in Rome is far less consequential than earlier, richer films, like Tierra and Lovers of the Arctic Circle, but it has its pleasures (beyond even the obvious erotic spectacle, photographed by a man who loves to caress female flesh with his lens). The camera never leaves the room, which is a veritable art museum of classical themes and historic symbolism, and it a keeps picking out evocative details (some more obvious than others). But if the camera never leaves, the film does via a laptop computer, which sends the women soaring over the globe and zooming in on satellite photos to find their respective homes, preserved in both space and time as a world and a life far away yet so close. As a one-night stand tale, where the stories they appropriate are as telling as the real identities they finally share with one another and the emotional charge of sudden attraction and sexual ecstasy is all the more attractive given the commitments back home that they are still questioning in their mind, it’s no Before Sunrise. Medem’s script relies on dramatic backstories and melodramatic complications for their discussions and quandaries. It’s in the moment that he’s much more convincing, especially as they keep finding reasons to extend their time together. And, speaking as a heterosexual male, the sight of two beautiful women naked at rest and play for half the movie doesn’t hurt either.

Hello TJC,

Unfortunately, I have not seen any info on preliminary plans by Optimum to release Lovers of the Arctic Circle.

Thumbs up

Awesome that this beautiful movie is already going to be released in the UK! As far as I know it isn't even available in its native country Spain as of now.

Does anyone already know whether the English subtitles on this BR are going to be optional or forced?

Also: Have any special features been announced so far? Hopefully they'll put some effort in them. I'm no big fan of bare bones releases...

I'd be terribly peaved if I ordered that BR only to find out that the subs were forced or that significant special features from the local release were missing. Both was the case with the British DVD of "Diary of a Nymphomaniac".

The film is mainly in English. Since this is a UK release, you can expect that the non-English portions will contain burnt-in or forced English subtitles.

In Spain, this film has been announced on DVD only, (however Diary of a Nymphomaniac, the other film you mentioned, does have a Spanish BD release with optional English subtitles, if you are interested) and any extras present will more than likely come from this release, subtitled where necessary. I would expect any extra content to be in SD PAL format.

I'll get it, but here in Spain, i dont mind using subs for english movies or whatever country they are from, but it would be just silly to have subs for me in a spanish film :P

If you like this movie (i haven't seen it yet, but its from the same director) i recomend Lucia y el sexo; guess its just on dvd, but worth watching it for sure.

Are we certain that the trailer is all that will be on this release? The Spanish DVD will supposedly have a making-of which would seem an obvious choice for a UK BD of a first-run English-language film...

Trailer is the only special feature mentioned in the press release, so yes...

Any idea if this will be Region locked or will be able to be played in Region A (US)? I was thinking of pre-ordering it.

If your package is seized, I will be able to tell you in 6-10 business days...

P.S. The main language of the film is English, so if there are subtitles for the English, they will be optional. Non-English portions will almost certianly have subtitles burned-in on the source print. So the real questio is, are their any English subtitles (for the English dialogue) at all?

I got this today and I can confirm that it is region "B" locked. The disc would not play in my US PS3.

Darn it, I wish Optimum would go back to having more region-free releases like they used to (but I know for some things their hands might be tied).

The cover they went with for the blu is OK, but that poster artwork would have been better I think;
