Are people recieving their PSYCHO BDs from UK to US this way? This has always been my experience with ordering. If it comes direct from amazon I get it in about less than a week. BUt those preferred merchants I'm never happy with.

I think if you check more closely it says orders for the UK are processed through their "preferred merchant", international orders are all fulfilled directly by Amazon UK. That's because there's no VAT ("sales") tax in Jersey, where there preferred merchant is located, so Amazon saves the VAT for UK customers by doing that. (Unlike sales tax, Value Added Tax has to be included in the price and paid by the merchant).

My order for Psycho steelbook and 2 other titles that didn't say anything about their preferred merchant all shipped together on the same day last week, and should be here early next week.

The movie is a classic and goes without saying a must own.

The transfer and supplements are excellent too!

I ordered the Steelbook (my first one) and wouldn't you know it arrived dented but Amazon.UK were kind enough to send a replacement no questions asked since they shipped it in a standard cardboard box with my other movies with no "bubble protector"

I LOVE AMAZON.UK!!!

My steelbook order arrived yesterday. Exactly one week after it shipped. The case was in perfect condition.

As for the movie itself, the transfer looked terrific. It blew away the DVD from the Masterpiece Collection. I haven't seen the SE DVD that came out after that, so I have no idea how that one looks.

The 5.1 remix was disappointing though. A lot of the sound FX were not the ones I was used to hearing from the dozens of times I'd watched it on TV and DVD over the years. Thankfully they included the original mono track(in lossless quality, no less), so I can just select that when I pop it in. I'm hoping Universal gives Vertigo the same respect.

It is odd my order thru UK amazon.com was placed Friday morning US time too late in the day to ship then, I am hoping it ships today yet unlike items that are stocked at their amazon site it still says I am able to cancel the order... meaning it is still trying to go thru their "preferred merchant" with a ship estimate of Aug 18th.

I have just been watching some of the extras on steelbook version of Psycho. Some fantastic info on the "Making Off . . ." One thing though, on the rear of the box where the extras are listed, top of the list is "Remastering Psycho in HD" I cannot find this extra anywhere in the extras list on the disc. Has anyone else noticed this omission?

Great discs though.

Yeah I was confused about that. It doesn't seem to be on the disc! But what a beauty of a transfer That's the main thing!

I couldn't start a new thread being a newbie but I reckon seeing as they compliment each other nicely I'll post it here:

Peeping Tom special edition is set for a blu-ray release 1/11/10, personally I'm looking forward to this one and it's a great companion piece to Psycho.

My Psycho steelbook arrived from Amazon UK looking like a trainwreck. I don't think I could have shaped it that way even if I tried. Oh well, atleast Amazon's customer service dealt with it exemplary.

I don't see why not. It is Universal, and they are releasing it in America too. Possibly with less subtitle options though

Must buy for me. My old R1 dvd was non anamorphic. Just a couple of comments.
1. Isnt DVD Beaver's site the worse laid out site you have ever seen!
2. More importantly, wasnt Psycho shot in 4:3 acadamy ratio?.. if so why is it 1:85-1 on the Blu ray...are we missing any info top and bottom?. im sure i saw a comparison in an old copy of Video Watchdog magazine, which i cant find now, and a picture comparison had things like the top of the house cut off etc....

Psycho was released in 1960, by which time widescreen films were pretty common (mainly in 1.85:1 and 2.35:1, sometimes 1.66:1). North by Northwest and Vertigo were both made earlier and were also in 1.85:1 Psycho's OAR is 1.85:1 (check IMDb's technical specs or the review page here for confirmation), which is preserved on the new release.

There's been a lot of debate on the subect, but I think the verdict is Psycho was photographed in open matte. That is 1.37:1. But the viewing ratio was always intended to be 1.85:1

That being said It would be nice to see all the extra image in the frame just out of curiosity. Seeing Hitchcock used his TV crew which always filmed at this ratio I wonder if the compositions were framed as full frame or if more thought was put into where the mattes would cover the frame.

I think your right it probably was open matte because of the tv crew as mentioned. In the magazine article it went into great detail but it was a few years ago and i have since lost it.

It was most likely never intended to be projected open matte. This discussion is getting boring. It wasn't a TV show, by 1960 there were almost no 1.37 films in theaters.

Over the years, most films have been photographed open matte - it doesn't mean anything as regards intended projection. Unfortunately people keep getting hung up on wanting to see areas top and bottom of the frame which were never intended to be seen.
