Default Is there a Blu-ray Player that plays ALL Blu-ray movies?

Is there a Blu ray player that will play ALL Blu Ray movies with no issues?? It seems like every one I read about has a problem with atleast a few specific movies. Are there any out there that don't need a firmware upgrade and will just play every single Blu Ray movie (like they all should be doing anyway!)??? How about the Playstation 3?
I'm still ticked that my BDP1400 wont play LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD and I have to wait for a damn firmware upgrade from Samsung for this movie whenever they get around to doing it. But there has to be a player out there that plays all Blu ray movies, right???

And is the quality of the PS3 just as good as any standalone Blu Ray unit when playing Blue Ray movies? Cuz I'm seriously considering returning my BDP1400 for something that will play all the blu ray discs without any problems.

The Panny 10 I used to have played all. So does my current 30 and PS3. No problems ever had.

Does the PS3 upscale regular DVDs too? It plays regular DVD's right?
I assume you connect the PS3 with HDMI, right?

Unfortunately Jeff, firmware will be apart of all our lives until Blu-ray itself stop evolving. What you can do to kind of remedy the situation is to get a player from a CE manufacturer that has their firmware updates in place and ready for download before a movie comes out. Samsung's newer players are excellent but Samsung themselves tend to be late with firmware updates, and it always centers around Fox movies. Now I still have a Sony BDP-S1 and it plays every single movie I put in it, also Sony has it's firmware ready to go a couple of weeks early in anticipation of newer titles that may have a heavy BD-J application on it or BD+ is on the disc (as with Fox titles). I would suggest either to get a PS3 or the new Panasonic players because both companies keep up to date with firmware. I hope this helps and please don't give up on Blu-ray.

Thanks guys for your responses... and for giving me a better understanding of firmware's essential place in the Blu Ray world.
I don't intend to give up on Blu-Ray. The picture quality has proven itself to me clearly. I was absolutely amazed at the picture quality of APOCALYPTO on my 46" RCA LCD HD-TV.
I just feel that (and I'm sure many of you agree) we should be able to play any Blu Ray movie on any player without a snag. But i guess it will get there.

Since the last firmware update ,my samsung 1400 has yet to not play anything.

I think many disc issues get blown out of proportion.

I don't think there is a player out there right now that will always play every movie perfectly without the use of firmware updates. As previous posters have already pointed this out, Blu-ray is still evolving and many-many new features have been implemented this year alone, making firmware updates and integral part of every Blu-ray player. I'm almost certain that by this time next year, most if not all newly released players will be up to date with the Final Profile and perhaps even BD Live and will be able to play all titles without a hitch, even ones with the best implemented copy protection schemes.

I have never encountered a BD that would not play in my BD-S1. I also keep firmware up to date.

See, but that's my point. Without regularly updating your player with the latest and greatest of firmware updates, you most likely would have encountered some problems as some point. That is why firmware updates are and will be essential to all Blu-ray players for some time to come.

Can you update the firmware on the PS3 w/o internet connection? Is it hard to do so?

Perhaps, but I have had to update firmware on my A20 one fewer times than I have my BD-S1, so it is not unique to BD. It's far less of a PITA than the almost daily updates required by certain operating systems.

I have made the point elsewhere in this forum (as have others) that I think that HDM SHOULD (not will) not be mainstream, until the average consumer can use the player out of the box to play all available software that exists and that is coming in the foreseeable future. As has been said many time, early adopters need to expect a certain amount of inconvenience.

Hi first time, long time lurker. Anyway, I just bought a 1400, and I bought LFoDH as my first blu ray movie. So, has anybody else had a problem with it like the first poster. That is kind of distressing, cause I upgraded from the 1000 to avoid problems like that and from getting firmware.

Anyway, love blu ray, and just thought I would ask the question.

Without an Internect connection to your PS3, yes. You need a PC with access to the Internet. Go HERE for details...it's pretty quick and easy.
