The Long Good Friday starring Bob Hoskins, Helen Miren, Pierce Brosnan, and Kevin McNally will be releasing in Blu-ray on 8/24/2010. I am a fan of British Gangster films and just pre-ordered this one (blind buy) .

Entrepreneurial mob boss Harold Shand runs an underworld empire but his dreams are much bigger. He and his sophisticated wife aspire to partner with American mobsters to turn the barren docklands of London into a development for the upcoming Olympics. But their perfect plan begins to unravel when a string of deadly bombings leads Shand to the stunning realization that he is being targeted by the IRA.

I wonder why Criterion didn't do their version of this along with Mona Lisa in '21. They were using the Arrow master anyway for that film, could have made for a nice Handmade Films - Bob Hoskins - Brit Crime Noir double bill.

I recommend the Arrow edition. Its been remastered by that label and its night and day improvement over the standard BD which now looks a copy from SD

For anyone who is region B compatible, the Arrow disc is a no-brainer upgrade over all previous releases, to be sure.
