Default Best LCD for $1,500?

What's the best LCD I can buy right now for $1,500? I want it to be bigger than 40". I will be using it for mostly Blu-Ray/TV/DVD's and some gaming.

Have you considered front projection? If not i'm not a fan of lcd tv'ss and would recommend a plasma or rptv instead. Is there any reason your after a lcd over the other oprions?

One reason I don't want to go Plasma is I have a Panny Plasma right now, (720p older model) but I see Phosphor lag and green ghosting on them. Atleast mine.

Why not just buy a newer Panny plasma (a 1080p model). I'd still pick a plasma over an LCD, or you could go with a projector?

If I was to go with a Panny it would be probably a 50" G25 or wait for the new GT series. Do the G25's have any phosphor lag? (Green Ghosting?)

If your willing to I'd wait. As of right now the main problem with this years model is something called "floating blacks". However, I have not read any problems referring to "green ghosting".

I vote for a Panasonic 1080P Plasma.

I wish I bought one of those instead of my Samsung LCD. They're just overall nicer tvs, not to mention that their customer service is a hell of a lot better than Samsung's.

The Panasonic Plasmas aren't too expensive, if you know where to look. You should go to Best Buy and check out their Panasonics and it's okay to look for a little out of your price range, because then you can look for a better price. You'll usually be able to find a better price on amazon or just online for a better price than what Best Buy sells it for.

I got my Samsung for $800 at the time from a small company in New Jersey online...
It's a 40" 1080P LCD.

Buy.com has the LG 55LH90 for $1599. It's a full LED Backlit with Local Dimming set and it's considered second best to the Samsung B8500.

Found 3 great deals on Dell.com all for under $1500 and 40"+ LCD/LED like your post originally stated:

1. Samsung UN46C6300 LED w/Harmon Kardon Blu-ray Player $1399.00

2. Sony KDL52EX700 LED $1389.99

3. Sony KDL46EX700 LED $1044.99

p.s. Probably not the "best" lcd's for $1500 but very nice for the price/size i thought. Good luck!

I'm always weary of plasma because of their problems. Everyone rants and raves about how great the next generation plasma will be, but then everyone complains about how this and that is messed up.

So does the lcd's and led's. Until you don't have one plasma at home, you won't know the difference.
Now back to lcd's, I'll vote for samsung ln55c650, PQ is more uniform and almost as bright as the led's.

I've never heard of a LCD/LED buzzing, losing it black level over time, having floating blacks, or having image retention.

I haven't heard my plasma buzz at all or any of the other problems you mention. You wont hear about black levels fading over time or floating blacks because they do not do a good job at blacks. ONly LCD/LED tv that came close was the samsung 8500 that used local dimming. Now the manufacturers use edge lit panels,so now all you see are hot spots along the edge of the screen with inferior black levels. That is if you can get past everything looking like a cartoon with the LED's. As for raising black levels even when it does happen the blacks are still darker than an LCD/LED.

You must of not done very much research when deciding which TV you were going to get; no worries though, you can still read up on the plethora of problems that Panasonic (and some Samsung) plasmas have.

Here is the Cnet review of the black degradation problem found in ALL, not some, but ALL of the 2009 Panasonic plasmas (and to a lesser extent, 2010). Panny plasmas that go over 1000 (or was it 1500?) hours end having black levels that are beaten by my Sammy LCD:

and here:

http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105-10437896-1.html

and here, and here (and one of them include Panasonic ADMITTING to the black level loss):

http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105-10462105-1.html

AND..... here is the MASSIVE AVS forum thread about the issue:

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1167339

Here is a thread about the black level rise here on Bluray.com:

https://forum.blu-ray.com/plasma-tvs...ck-levels.html

Here is a thread on AVS about the new floating blacks issue (it's also growing rapidly):

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1236475

It is also been said that LG plasmas have worse floating blacks than the Pannys.

If you do a simple google search (or even search here on BD.com) you'll found a magnanimous amount of posts related to the irritating buzz of any plasma. It's a VERY well known issue.

Out of the gate Plasma > LCD/LED PQ wise, there is NO QUESTION there. My issue with plasma is the amount of problems they have that LCD/LED does not. Screen uniformity is somewhat of an issue for LCD/LED, but my LCD has very little back light bleed so it isn't a concern of mine. The LG that has full local dimming has very good screen uniformity, and it is a bargain at around $1600 for a 55 inch.

How about we talk about LCD/LED on here like the OP wants to. I'm tired of someone posting in THE LCD/LED PART OF THE FORUM, only to have people post on here saying "but you should get a plasma!" If the OP wanted a plasma, he'd post in THAT PART of the forum.

To the OP: If I was you I'd wait it out until the holidays or when football starts; there might be some really good deals around the corner for you if you just wait it out a little longer. Also, are you interested in 3D? If so, then I'd really wait it as much as possible.

That is a completely false statement that will be backed by completely nothing. Any review of any LCD CCFL or LCD/LED (fully backlit or edge lit) shows that they have very good black levels.

What you're referring to is the motion interpolation that LCD/LED's are equipped with, and it can be turned. I for one LOVE motion interpolation and I think it gives a new spin on any movie I've already watched. If I want to watch a film like presentation, I just turn the option "off."

You must not have seen i do not have a panasonic plasma i have a pioneer. I have never had any of the problems you mentioned.

I agree that op wanted a lcd but many ppl pass on plasma of the problems of the past. IMO you can get a much better tv in plasma for the price. Lcd's have a full set of problems that are unique to them, no tv is perfect. Just got to pick what is important to you.

Hey guys, stop the arguing. Both LCD and Plasma have their advantages, and every TV has its faults. But that's not what this thread is about. The OP wanted to know the best LCD he could get for $1500, not whats better.
I still think the LG 55LH90 is the best bet, but the price on it has gone up.
