Default The Office DVD vs Blu-ray

The Office: Season Six Blu-ray

The Office: Season Six Blu-ray Review

The Office: Season Seven Blu-ray

The Office: Season Seven Blu-ray Review

The Office: Season Eight Blu-ray

I already own seasons 1-5 on DVD. I can't decide if I want to continue getting them on DVD since only 5 and 6 are on blu-ray... or if I want to go ahead and get the blu-ray. Is there a noticeable quality difference between the DVD and blu-ray?

At Target, where I will purchase it (because I work there), the DVD is $30 ($27 with discount) and the blu-ray is $38 (about $34 with discount). I can't decide whether it's worth it to spend an extra $7 (which isn't much at all) on The Office.

What do you guys think?

Also, does anyone have an idea if they'll ever release all the seasons on blu?

Of course you should get season 6 on blu-ray. Live in the now!

I'm hopeful that they'll release a box set after the next season when Steve Carell leaves. A Michael Scott Collection if you will.

I have previously sold my DVD's off in anticipation of picking them all up on blu-ray one day. If you want it now I say get the blu-ray version. It always bests the DVD version of the same title in some way.

Remember that with this Blu-ray release, Universal is actually going to use BD-Live for something useful (you know, like what Paramount/Dreamworks and Magnolia have done), owners of the set will be able to enjoy the latest five episodes from Season 7 streamed to their BD players.

You do not have to wait for Hulu or Netfllix and you don't have pay iTunes or Amazon. And yes, with the proper internet connection, you will be able to ejoy these episdes in HD.

Because of my issues regarding uniformity when possible in my collection, I'm getting it on DVD. I'll save myself a few bucks and I'll be satisfied when looking at my shelves.

I'd say go BD. No use in buying old technology when you have the option for new.

Edit: I'd wait for the box set of all seasons.

i can only see them doing that once the show ends (which is should after Steve leaves)

personally, i'd get the DVD probably because none of the others are on blu-ray and don't seem to be getting released on Blu-ray like Supernatural is

also, Best Buy will have a bonus disc for it along with a tshirt, Target just has two 'extended' episodes which i don't think will be that great or it wouldn't be just at Target, it'll probably just have deleted scenes integrated back into it.

This is a big plus. If something comes up and you miss it, you can pop in your BD and watch it. Or if you just really liked it, you can watch it again. They will the previous 5 episodes up so you'll have around 5 weeks to rewatch them as much as you want.

The Office seems strong enough a series to be eventually released on blu-ray. I know they've redone the original seasons for HD and have seen HD versions of them. I wouldn't be surprised if we see a Michael Scott collection or something in the near future.

The Office Season 5 was no contest - Blu-ray was much better than the DVD. Seriously, get the BD.

I haven't watched the BDs but I think anything over a DVD is worth getting. So definitely the BD, I'm sure 1-4 will come out eventually

'...as well as the PG, bad as it may be....'

Are you saying that The Office looks bad on Blu? Because it looks even better than broadcast.

I'm sticking with DVD for this show. It's just not the kind of content that needs Blu-Ray and I tend to watch it in rooms that don't have a BD player.

Of course Blu-ray. But if one would rather enjoy looking at a shelf as opposed to watching the show in HD....so be it.

I think you've sold me on this one... My internet connection is pretty average though. Do you think I'll still be able to stream them okay? I've only tried streaming a few times and it seemed to not go all that well... took a long, long time to load.

I'm going to get the BD... seems like most folks think the full series will eventually make it to BD, and for $7 extra, I can't complain.

Thanks everyone!

The show is shot in full HD so obviously the improvement will be drastic. Whether that's worth $7 is up to you, to me that's an obvious "yes".
