The ps3 just came out a month ago so I don't think a price drop will be anytime soon. Sony has to sell enough units before a price drop can occur. Maybe it's a rumor going around. I'l tell you right now that you're paying $500 to $600 for either unit, unless you buy a bundle, if you do, you'll be spending a lot more as the bundles are way overpriced anyway. I would bet that it'll be a year or two, maybe three before a price drop is announced, but eventually in the consoles life cycle, the price will be lower.

Mostly rumors, just because people don't want to spend that much. Theres been tons of talk about the 360 getting a price cut but I haven't seen any...

Just buy the system if you can afford it instead of worrying about whats around the corner. You and I know that its going to come down sooner or later, but is it worth waiting?

For me, I got it for 560 before tax

There was a recent price drop in Japan. The $500 model was dropped to just over $400. (no price drop on the premium version in Japan though) This is why all the rampant rumors of price drops are going around. Probably won't happen since the PS3 is selling fairly well in the U.S. and the most sought after model is the 60gb.

It is very, very unlikely that they will drop PS3 prices this close to the EU release. In the UK the PS3 sells at £425 which is about $850 for the 60GB version and there is still considerable interest here and on the mainland as the X360 is not suited to EU gaming i.e. we can't sit for hours on-end playing FPS. The PS2 sold 40m units in the EU so it really is more important than the US (for Sony and N anyway) market as there is more money to be made on PS3 sales.

Default Think about it this way...

With the initial roll-out of the console, there were production issues that plagued Sony, and every employee at Sony was producing consoles from their garages to keep up with demand . Add to that the fact that Sony is taking it in the shorts for each console sold in hopes that the games and Blu-Ray back them up. Don't get me wrong because it a tactic, and one that will ultimately pay off in my humble opinion, but because of this tactic (unless the tactic was showing early signs of failure with no way out) Sony "should" not drop the prices at this point in the game. Their inflated goal of producing and selling 1 million consoles before year end has already been surpassed. Sony is in it for the long run and right now, I'd venture to say that they are sittin' pretty... that goes double for Blu-Ray!!
