Default My Blu-ray is not playing some features

I first noticed this on my Star Trek Original Motion Picture Collection on 'The Motion Picture' disc. One of the features (I believe it was the tv spots) would not play. I saw a blue screen and it said "no signal" Also my Blu-ray locked up and I could not skip or stop or get to the menu ect. > The only thing that I could do was turn off the power and turn it back on again. At first I thought it might be the disc. But on 'The Wrath of Khan' disc from my Star Trek Original Motion Picture Collection it did the same thing on one or more of the features. This was a couple months ago.

Then yesterday (since I am typing this email after midnight it happend yesterday) the same thing happend on 2 features on the Blu-ray disc from my Cars Blu-ray/Dvd combo pack. I could not get Boundin' Cars to play. Also on the Cine-Explore I had it on Auto and when it came to the first featurette clip or deleted scene it would not come up and the same thing that happend before happend again (it would not play it and my Blu-ray player locked up again).

Another thing is everytime I put any Blu-ray disc in before it gets to the main menu and before it plays any feature I always see the blue screen and see it say "no signal". It still goes to the main menu and it still plays most of the features (but not all). I don't think this happend when I first purchased this player. Also the features that don't play are always the same ones. When they don't play I notice on my Blu-ray that it goes to 1 second and then locks up.

I cleared the stuff that I downloaded from BD Live (I can always download it later) to see if that would work and it did not. I also tried using composite cables that came with my Blu-ray player and that did not work. So I can't get them to play on either the HDMI cables or the composite cables. I did not think it was the cable that was the problem anyway but I still wanted to test it. I also checked to see if I had the lastest firmware update and I did.

My Blu-ray player is the Samsung BD-P3600. I might call Samsung later today. I also might call Disney. I am not sure what is going on.

Definitely sounds like a player issue to me, best of luck to you in getting it resolved. Try playing the movies/features on another player before calling Disney or Samsung.

This is the only Blu-ray player that I have. Disney can test their Blu-rays in different Blu-ray players. Disney has the Samsung 4600 which for the most part is just like mine. They might test their Cars Blu-ray on that player to see what happens.

Default It was probably 2.12

I have a BD-P1600 and after updating to 2.12 this exact thing happened to my BluRay. Some things would play and other features would not and I was always getting the "no signal" message.

I phoned Samsung 4 times each time I got a different response.
1. Why did you upgrade your Firmware? It is your fault the Blu Ray is broken because you updated the firmware. (I find this to be totally ridiculous because Samsung released the firmware upgrade and tells everyone to keep their players updated)
2. There is nothing we can do, send in your unit for servicing, you pay.
3. It is probably your HDMI cable, replace it and see what happens. (I went out and bought a new cable and the same "no signal" kept appearing, I later returned the cable and got my money back)
4. There was a suprisingly nice girl I talked to and she even extended my warranty for 1 month and arranged to have my unit sent in for repairs at the cost of Samsung.

My player was perfectly fine UNTIL I updated to 2.12 and then I got the "no signal" message. Of course Samsung won't admit that it was their faulty firmware update. I suggest calling Samsung and try to get them to pay to fix it. My player is at the Service place right now so I don't know what is going to happen when I get it back, hopefully it will work again.

I have learned my lesson and my next BluRay player is going to be Pioneer.

Default Yup

What you are describing is what I have. Only when I called Samsung they told me I uploaded the wrong firmware as I am in Canada and I used the US sites Firmware. They told me I used the wrong region firmware and I would have to get my Blu-ray player repaired. The stupid thing is I checked the Canadian site and the firmware is exactly the same. I seriously doubt there is any difference between Canadian and US firmware for Samsung. In any case I re-updated the firmware from the Canadian site even though it had the exact same name and file size.

If I explain thing properly to them do you think they will have it repaired for free even though the blu-ray player was a gift and I do not have a warranty or proof of purchase?

Do you think they'll come up with new firmware to fix this?

Next time I'm getting a Magnavox Blu-ray player.

Well I just called SamSung. I expained that I have problems on 2 different cables and all that. The woman over the phone had my open the disc tray and press enter. I read some number to her and she said I have like 2.2 firmware or something like that. She had me go to update my firmware and it would not update. It seems like my Blu-ray player will not update the lastest firmware because it thinks it allready has the latest firmware updated. So anyway she is sending me a disc that will give it the lastest firmware update and I guess tell my Blu-ray player that it does not have the lastest firmware update or something like that. She seemed to think that this should fix the problem. I hope it does fix this.

My unit is still out for repair, I was told I would get it back in 7 to 14 business days.

Cypher, I would suggest calling Samsung and trying to get THEM to repair your player, since there are other instances of this happening to players they can't say it is not their firmware update.

Give it a try.

I can't believe the Samsung tech told you this!! If it was me I would be spitting nails on them over the phone. Absolutely ridiculous response!

I hate Samsung Blu Ray players.

A good friend of mine has one and often calls for help with it.

What's worse is,... eventually he replaced his Samsung Blu Ray player with a newer Samsung Blu Ray player.... GRrrrrrr.... Matches his TV though so that is nice.

Well, I got my player back and I popped in a disc and to my surprise. THE EXACT SAME THING IS STILL HAPPENING.

I really think I shipped it to them, it sat on a shelf for a week, they sent it back to me. Nothing was done.

Some advice I have learned about Blu Ray players and firmware updates. First of all I have owned 4-Sony"300-350-360 and now have a 570 which so far is the best player to date I have ever owned", 2-Panasonics "60-65", THE EXACT PIECE OF CRAP SAMSUNG player you are refering to, and my son has an OPPO-83 and a PIONEER "model no. unsure of" and you will sooner or later experience the problems that your Samsung is doing or it will do other strange things because the firmware updates that you get for the most part are good for your machine but alot of times they are very bad. The company will never admit it but I have learned the hard way that everyone that works for the company that makes the machine keeps their mouth shut when a bad firmware update comes out. Ask around and watch these forums carefully because there is almost always a forum on a "player not working correctly" before installing the firmware update. Even the top shelf players are subject to this and I really do not understand why this crap happens, but it does. I have had serveral disc drives in players replaced but ultimately it will be a bad firmware update that renders the player useless. NEVER BUY A BLURAY PLAYER WITHOUT AN EXSTENDED WARRANTY BECAUSE AFTER THE COMPANY HAS FIXED THE PLAYER A COUPLE OF TIMES THEY WILL EVENTUALLY OFFER YOU THE NEXT EDITION NEWER MODEL PLAYER. Having said all of this I still am a BLU RAY fan but if you use your player alot then be careful before installing firmware updates and be ready to have disc drives replaced. Samsung players are the most worked on and returned to the service shop for repairs according to the Best BUY in my area and the early Sonys and LG's were tied for second making Panasonic in third "But what the hell do they no". Hope your problem gets resolved without too much heartache and have a nice day.
