I'm really not sure I could watch this film again; it pretty much disturbed me as a child! Memories of fluffy rabbits being torn to shreds by other, distinctly un-fluffy, rabbits doesn't sit well with a still forming and impressionable mind! And then there's the theme tune...

Of course, I could be misremembering how bad it was. I thought 'When the Wind Blows' was less disturbing.

This is tame compared to the other of Rosen's adaptations - The Plague Dogs.

Excited about this animated adult movie. I did see it as a kid, probably shouldn't have, gave me nightmares for a few nights. General Woundwort is a scary SOB.

Questions on what type of movie, just google images of General Woundwort.

May watch the DVD today, which I think is 4:3. Cannot wait for the Blu-ray.

I'd love to have Watership Down on Blu-ray.

Only if you remember Thumper in Bambi as a huge bloodthirsty rabbit.....

Definitely not a film to just sit very young kids down in front of, I'm surprised its not a PG to be perfectly honest.

If 4:3 is the correct ratio, then that had better be what we get on Blu-ray.
EDIT: Apparently 1.66:1 was the original ratio.

It's just been released in Germany (with English Audio), Think I'm gonna go for that one It's got the original artwork too although plastered with German text, 18 Euros ain't cheap though.

Apparently WATERSHIP DOWN has been released on blu-ray in Germany.

Here is the review from Amazon.de (edited):
"For the film itself there is no need to say much. A classic that has, at least for me, not lost its fascination. The Blu-ray version is lacking in extras, but offers an impressive picture. The film is about thirty years, and now and then you notice a little bit of film grain. The sharpness is impressive for such an old movie and the Blu-ray is absolutely worthy of purchase."

"Fortunately, as far as I can see there is good color saturation. On should not expect miracles for the audio, which is in Dolby Digital 2.0 (English DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0). Of course, more extras would have been desirable, and the menu is simply bad, but seriously: It is about the movie and the image quality... so 5 stars from me!"

hmm the DVD copy I have that I got in a charity shop for 1 pound was pretty bare bones when it came to features/menu too. So I guess if it ever does come to UK it will probably be the same as the German release.

What stinks is that Warners released WATERSHIP DOWN on dvd a year or two with a decent amount of extras (and a commentary track too, I believe), but with no word nor intention on releasing it on blu.

Hopefully this will eventually get a release. I liked Watership Down a lot, and it'd be great to see it on Blu-ray.

I heard about the cancellation when Amazon sent me an email . WB if you're looking at this thread, know that we want it to be released.

They had a book The Watership Down Film Picture Book with stills from the film when this came out and it was quite a wellmade thing. I think I might have it somewhere (or it went in a recent move) all the pages were glossy black and my brother and I used the first blank pages to put Star Wars transfers one. Princess Leia and bunnies what a combo!

If this got the Disney treatment this would look fantastic, not sure if I could watch it again though, I'm too sensitive now....

The film is quite violent, but it didn't bother me that much. Amazing story, and Garfunkel's Bright Eyes was perfect for the film.
