![]() ![]() All-Star Superman Blu-ray All-Star Superman Blu-ray Review ![]() All-Star Superman Blu-ray with Figurine -o- All-Star Superman Blu-ray with Litho Cel http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansit.../news/?a=22733 Looks like after Superman/Batman: Apocalypse, we've got another Supes movie coming (to be followed by a Green Lantern and Batman: Year One). I've heard the grumbling before but generally disagreed, but I have to say yet ANOTHER Superman movie is kind of disappointing. In fact, I'm not really looking forward to any next year. Batman Year One is something I know a lot of people want, but while Bats is my favorite I'm just not terribly excited - I'd have rather seen something like Killing Joke. Anyway, I'm sure I'll pick this up as soon as it's available on Blu. Just not itching for it like I am Apocalypse. I do like that James Denton is in it, but again, jumping voices each time is getting kind of annoying. Last edited by Deciazulado; 02-19-2011 at 10:58 AM. |

Super-Man All-Star was a really good comic! I will definitely want to see this in animation. Another Green Lantern sounds good as well.
I agree about the voice jumps. I think nearly everybody prefers Tim Daly as Supes and of course Kevin C. as Batman. The voices they had for the animated programs were fantastic. Why use them some of the time and not all the time? EDIT From what I recall, James Denton's voice seems like it will work well. Also, I like the way Lex Luthor was shown in All-Star. It really showed his motives behind the hatred of Superman. That and Red Son paint a great portrait of Lex. |

From what I have read, do not expect many of the future DC features to star anyone but Superman or Batman. Those two just sell a lot better, and Warner does not care one bit about promoting the lesser characters. I think features centered around groups like the Justice League will be the closest we get from now on.
This should be a cool feature, an absolute edition of the comic series is coming out next month. |

![]() But I agree, I would have liked something like the Killing Joke better myself OR a better Superman arc. I'd like to see other characters too, but they just don't sell as well so I can't blame them for not straying too often. |

I don't mind a Superman feature. I like the lore and even though he's shared starring roles in many of these features, only two have been for him alone: Doomsday and Brainiac Attacks, both not very good at all. I mean, I'll get any DC film either way, I think, but if they did a feature about the Spectre or Green Arrow or Jonah Hex, there's a good chance I wouldn't enjoy it too much. But Superman? Even if it's not very good, I'll probably still be pretty well entertained by it. Anyway, what do you expect? A movie about Doom Patrol? The Suicide Squad? Red Tornado? You think those would sell? The only thing I'm really waiting on is Teen Titans, and so long as that's definitely not gonna happen, I'm totally OK with whatever they'll give us, even if it's just Batman and Superman over and over. You want lesser known characters? Check out the Brave and the Bold series sometimes. That's the only place you're gonna see a lot of those dudes. The Killing Joke would be interesting, but I don't think they'd do it. It's a Joker story with Batman as an incidental character, which would hinder its chances of landing with younger fans. It's a fun read, but I don't know if it'd be received well as an animated feature. Maybe they could make a long-form short, sort of like what they're doing with the Superman and Captain Marvel release that's coming. Last edited by Afrobean; 09-18-2010 at 08:18 AM. |

Man, I would watch the hell out of an Animated Jonah Hex. Heck, it can't be worse then that terrible movie.
EDIT: No seriously, my mind is going bananas over the idea of a PG-13 animated Jonah Hex animated feature now. THIS HAS TO HAPPEN SOMEDAY. I just got to watch New Frontier tonight. The graphic novel its based on is, quite frankly, my favorite super-hero comic of ALL TIME. And while I enjoyed the animated version quite a bit, I thought it went against the spirit of the thing when they made Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman more central to its plot. Thing needed more Challengers of the Unknown, Task Force X, and The Losers. I chalk it up to the 90 minute runtime. If there ever was a movie constrained by its runtime, its New Frontier. And believe me, All-Star Superman, if they stick to the source, ain't going to grab to many 'Young Fans'. AS Superman is a Silver-Age wankfest* for all the man-children who can't let go of the past. Frankly my only interest in the thing is Ed Asner playing Perry White. If there ever was a perfect Actor/Character combo, its that. *an ironic statement considering New Frontier being my favorite comic. I guess what I mean is AS Superman is all about the goofy silver-age bulls--t. New Frontier managed to distill all that out without killing the spirit of the period. Basically Darwin Cooke rules, Grant Morrison drools. Last edited by Jim Purcell; 09-18-2010 at 08:35 AM. |

You do know there is already an animated short featuring Jonah Hex on Batman: Under The Red Hood? Probably the best of the shorts released so far as a bonus.

I may not be a fan of AS Superman. But I'll take that any day over the mess that is AS Batman. Fun(?) Fact: All-Star Batman is suppose to be a prequel to the Dark Knight Returns continuity. But Miller is totally channeling DK2 while writing it. Much to the world's chagrin. |

I got that vibe as well. Definitely just Batman being a total dick in general.
I don't know how DKR was so amazing but the sequel sucked so terribly. I just kept reading it, hoping that it would get better. It didn't. It was probably made worse by the fact that I felt DKR gave some pretty decent closure on the Batman mythos, and closure isn't exactly something that you really ever get for these heros. |

Kingdom Come would be really cool, but I just don't think anyone could do Alex Ross' art justice in a direct-to-video film.

I think they should have 1 Batman 1 Superman 1 Justice League and then 1 double feature where its 2 30 or 35 minute movies for the lesser known characters and this doesn't mean recycle the animated shorts from your other films or have Batman or Superman featured through the whole 30 some minute film so maybe like a 30 minute Flash movie and a 30 minute Joker movie on the same disc or a 30 minute Martian Manhunter mixed with a 30 minute Deadshot you know it could be good I know they have the Upcoming Animated Showcase but thats kinda cheap for those of us who already own the other 3 shorts Hex, Arrow, and Spectre

I would still have liked the Apocalypse of 2009 or whatever it was with Ra's al Ghul that was mentioned many times before. that would be a good story.
Or I would like to see them go back and do the Judas Contract. Some I would like to see (for batman story arcs) The Dark Knight Returns Long Halloween Dark Victory I would also be interested in seeing a Batgirl Year One |
