I recently talked to a customer who bought a 1080p set, and he was pondering adding a blu ray. Talking he brought up the current WAR with toshiba, and basically while talking to him he said if it comes down just a bit more from 399.99, hed buy one. He asked the price of dud, and it was on sale for like 285 for the a3 and he declined, not because of price, because he didnt like hd dvd. Well my thought is, people arent waiting for a declared "winner". They want blu ray, thats the hot item, they just are waiting for the BLU RAY Prices to come down. Toshiba has lowered their price and they still arent selling. Joe six pack wants blu, but is still not willing to shell out 400 bucks. That just my thought. Basically blu ray will, and has won in my opinion. So its not that people are waiting for a winner, they are waiting for blu.

Actually they ARE selling, but not as HD players, people seem to be using them as DVD player to up-convert them to HD....
But yeah, people know Blu-ray is the way to go and so in my opinion, the war IS over. Just a matter of time before HD-DVD realizes it. |

As far as this post goes, the OP does have a point. The sales of software have pretty much confirmed that Blu-ray is the format of choice amongst the masses, more-so internationally than within the US. DVD was not widely adapted by the masses until the pricepoint was affordable to the masses. It makes sense, and will more-than-likely be the case (not a decision in the format war), but it still would not justify artificially deflating prices to get to that point sooner. As more adaption occurs, prices will come down through cost of production and supply and demand. That's the beauty of a free-market society. For those of us that have already adapted, we just have to be patient. It's already started happening, and once that magical price has been reached, things will really begin to happen! |
