My Rainy Days (Tenshi No Koi)

If you are interested in Japanese love story, and don't mind a cute actress as the lead ; I recommend this movie called My Rainy Days (Tenshi No Koi 天使の恋). The BD will be released next week here in Hong Kong, and I am kind of looking for it.

I have the DVD, not a bad movie. I might not go for an upgrade however since a lot of Asian Blu-ray releases are so expensive to get. If the price is right I might get it.

Sometimes I love chick flix, and this is definitely one I am getting! And I am interested to know if this HK version will include any extra features?

On a side note, I find it is ridiculously interesting that the English, Japanese and Chinese (Hong Kong) titles of this film have completely nothing to do with each other!

The English title = Well, that's pretty obvious
The Japanese title = The love of an Angel
The Chinese (HK) title = Angel for Rent

that's the case with a great many japanese films over the year.

titles being what they are (usually quite simple) they can often translate literally into english, and, at the same time, they can also have an unrelated or alternative international title in english.

Glad to see this is coming out - I was tempted by the Japanese release but it was simply too expensive for a blind buy. I first saw Nozomi Sakaki in some evil commercials for "Fits" gum on YouTube.

Ok, just bought the BD today. Strangely it seems not that many stores carry this BD, as I found it at the fourth store I visited today. Not even the one I usually shop at carry it at all.

By the way, this BD is region A locked.

Upon initial viewing on my bedroom’s Philips 32” LCD tv, I would say the PQ deserves at least a 4-star.

Video in general is sharp, with minimal video noise during darker scenes. As the English title suggests, there are quite a few rainy scenes through out the film. In general, rain drops and wet hair look sharp and natural. I would also like to point the use of color tones (white balance) is great where, sad scenes look and offer a feeling of cold and isolation; while happier scenes certainly look warm and more comfortable. At the same time, transitions between different types of scenes are smooth and viewers don’t get the sense that, they are watch two different movies.

This is a dialog heavy film, and audio level / mixing etc sounded just right on my tv. Having said that, I will need to watch it again in the living room, before I can properly rate the audio.

This was a very, very good chick flick. It reminded me a lot of Christmas in August. The PQ and AQ are both excellent. Subtitles are also very good. Only extra on this release is a trailer. The cover on this HK release make it seem to be a Japanese soft core adult film. It's nothing of the sort.

Highly recommended.

If only it were a softcore flick starring Nozomi Sakaki. I've only had a chance to watch about half of this film so far. It looks great on Blu-ray. The only thing that seems a bit odd about it is the way it seems to glamorize what's basically prostitution (teenage girls working as paid dates for older guys). The flipside of this is a movie I like a lot called Strawberry Shortcakes, which definitely does not glamorize the life of an escort.
