Default Gamefly sucks

Ok one game took 5 days, Now its already been 7 days and the second game still isn't here, but I got email notifications of both games shipping same day.

So not worth it. Anyone know of a good unlimited rentals a month service?

yeah i had gamefly, it does suck. so i came up with my own method: rent one game at blockbuster for $8, and you get to keep it for 37 (YES THIRTY SEVEN) days for only a $1.25 restocking fee. $9 for 37 days? by then i've pretty much played a game to death.

Huh? Really?

I've had gamefly for several months now and couldn't be happier. With my inevitable PS3 coming for Xmas this year I'm even more happy about it.

Did you just sign on? How long have you been using them? Did you contact customer service because they're really good about things like this and will usually credit you in some way to make up for the delay which I can tell you has got to be a fluke. They're the best online rental service out there in my experience and I've tried a few. Are you living in a really remote area? There's got to be some kind of fluke reason for the delay.

I'm on the east coast and I never wait more than three days for a new game once I put one back in the mail. Lately it's been more like two.

I'm in NYC so I can forget the Blockbuster option. There's never anything available that I want to play or, when it is, it's usually beat to hell. Just doesn't work on my end. Plus, I usually like to have a couple games going vs. just one.

You should contact gamefly about this. I'm sure they'll accommodate you somehow. That kind of shipping delay isn't normal.

not a bad idea. The only problem with that for me is the new games are harldy ever there since other people tend to do the same.

I've been less than impressed with services that do both games and movies. The selection seems to suffer. At least on the gaming end. Gamefly does PS3 games. Best selection out there in terms of rental services. I'm hoping Santa brings a PS3 this year and I'm all about renting before buying on this end with so many games in the pipeline, not to mention picking them up at a discount.

I'm a purist. What can I say? It's Netflix for movies and Gamefly for games.

Honestly it really depends on where you live if gamefly will work for you.

I think it's getting better. I've heard rumors of new distribution centers opening up too which bodes well for everyone. I know service improved considerably once they opened up the Philly distribution center on my end. I went from 5/6 day turnarounds to 2/3. Pretty much cut the time in half.

I've had Gamefly for a year now and it has been hit or miss. I just kinda expect slow shipping now. But every once in awhile the 'fast return' works and they ship out a new game the day after I send mine. Still takes 2 or 3 days to get here (denver) but it is faster than the normal week if they wait for the game to actually reach them first.

I've also just upped to 3 games at a time. Play through one game, send it back. Play through the other while you are waiting to get the next game from your queue. The 3rd is just if you are bored with only one game.

New releases, you really need to plan. I try and send a game 3 or 4 days before the release of a big new game. I got both Ratchet and Clank and COD4 on release day. But now I've missed the window for Uncharted and Assassin's Creed which will probably be months before I get them. I missed the window on Heavenly Sword too, but it looks like that is about to clear up now.

I do love their discounts for members on preplayed games. I'm now up to 10% off all games and $5 every 3 months. You can pick up some pretty good games for under $20 which is quite worth it.

actually i've been fortunate, there are 3 stores near me, so usually one of them will have a new release, or i'll call ahead of time. as far as most people doing the same, i don't think so, blockbuster calls after 7 days to say "your creidt card is now being charged unless you return it..." which scares most people to RUN back to the store, not knowing they have another 3 weeks to keep it and get there credit card refunded.

With you there. Particularly around this time of year. I've actually bought a couple of games this way that I plan to give as gifts as they send along all of the packaging and manuals so it's just like you've bought the game new.

Got Bioshock for the 360 and Manhunt II for PSP. Both new releases and basically in brand new condition at a fraction of the full retail price.

They are just too dang slow. I haven't sent a game back yet, so I don't even want to know how long thats going to take before they send me another game (I used a keep it option on one, the other I haven't).
Im in Atlanta, and don't get why we wouldn't get games from the east coast shipping distribution center.

I'll keep em though if I end up using the keep it option for half the games or something.

I have gamefly and have experienced the very slow game delivery once. Actually, I never got the game. I called them up after 2 weeks and they sent it again and gave me a $5 credit towards their store (hey, not the best deal but not the worst).

The thing I hate most is that if your game is even moderately indemand (say, the availability is anything other than "High", you automatically get the next game. About 2 months ago I had Madden 08, Tigers Woods 08 (Wii), Elebits, and Elite Beat Agents in my queue and I got EBA. So I've learned to have 1 game in my queue at all times, that way I'll be sure to get that game.

Thank God I haven't had any not sent out issues. I used the keep it option for a game on Saturday, so it left my "at home" section. Now I think I'll be keeping gamefly because I can keep my games for a good price (especially new releases, the call of duty 4 I got came in brand new condition. There wasn't even a smudge on the back or anything) even new releases for like $13 off retail without any extra costs. I hope my next queue item left today though since Saturday by using the keep it option I now have an open spot for a game to be sent out. If thats the case my feelings will get better about gamefly. Really though the selection and the buying basically new games at discount prices is very appealing. And its nice to get the manual and box that are in brand new condition! Lot more appealing than buying a used game at ebgames, plus you can't really ever buy a brand new game at a used game price 1 week after its out.

Unlike Netflix, which now has a distro center in every state and plenty of titles available locally to ship out overnight, Gamefly, by their own admission, has TWO distro centers--One in Pittsburgh, and one in City of Industry, CA.
And if you're in the Midwest, you're out of luck.

It's easy to be spoiled with overnight Netflix rentals, but with Gamefly, you have to allow the "old" pre-national Netflix system from '00, with less availability, "skipped" wait-titles and 3-day mailing periods...
But it's nowhere near the nightmare I remember from pre-'01 Netflix, and I haven't had any Gamefly problems yet, although I've only rented two games so far.
And their new "barcode" system of shipping the second title the day the first return scans at the post office helps the wait time considerably.

(And, like Netflix, I'm terrified of using the "Brand X" competition.)

They are all high demand titles. They are all unavailable in my queue as well. Unfortunately you just have to wait it out, or get lucky. If you want a new major release you must send back a game 2-3 days before the release of that new game. Do that and you have a good shot at getting a copy.

But always keep a very close eye on your queue when you send back a game. The status for the games change daily. I'm constantly rearranging stuff based on what's available and what I don't want quite yet. I got screwed once before too by not paying attention and a title low on my list ended up getting sent.

BTW, where are you located ahaxton? If you are in a big enough city, try dropping your games off at your post office. A lot of times they will get scanned for 'fast return' and a new game will get sent out immediately. It can shed a couple days off of waiting for a new title. The post office doesn't do it every time though.

I used keep it on both of my "at home" games
