I just bought a projector and was thinking about how I'm gonna get the hdmi cable from my blu ray player to it. Than I started realizing I need to also get the sound to go from the blu ray to the receiver. Right now it's done with one HDMI cable.
Basically I'm asking if I need an HDMI cable from the blu ray player to the projector than one from the projector to the receiver.? Can someone help me wrap my head around this. Thanks |

It can be done that way (2 HDMI cables). However, I have my PJ hooked up with just one HDMI cable. My BD player is connected to my receiver and the PJ is connected to the receiver. If your receiver has 2 HDMI outs, just have 1 go to your TV and the other to your PJ. If not, you'll need an HDMI splitter, like this one from Monoprice.

Yes, ideally, you will need two HDMI cables (most of us use two with our TVs). One will go from your BD player to the receiver, and the second (much longer cable) will pass the video from the receiver all the way over to your projector. It's sort of a "daisy chain" setup that most HDMI receivers are designed to work with.
You could just use one HDMI cable from your player to your projector, and use an alternative method to get the audio to your receiver. These alternatives would be optical, coaxial, or analog (2 channel or multichannel, the latter depending on the capabilities of your player and receiver). You will give up lossless multichannel audio if you go with optical or coaxial. Your best and simplest bet is to stick with two HDMI cables. ![]() |

In many setups, the receiver has a few HDMI inputs and one output.
The bluray player would go into one of the inputs and the output on the receiver goes to the projector. The receiver handles the audio automatically and passes the video to your TV or projector. Does this help? EDIT: oops, apparently there were other people responding. ![]() |

yeah ok, I get what you guys are saying. Thanks for clearing that up. I guess I will need to get an HDMI splitter though since I will be going back and forth between a projector and a t.v.
The screen is electric and will be installed right above the t.v. so it comes down just infront of it. Thanks again guys. |

![]() Keep everything hooked-up like you have now, and just add the splitter/switch onto your AVR HDMI out to switch video between your TV and projector. |
