Bloody hell. 200 GB on a single disk! wow. That's huge. Compared to current 9GB dvd's. Is there a limit to how many layers you can have on a Blu -Ray disc do you know?

I have no idea what the limit is for the amount of layers they can support, but Blu-ray was created to support multi layers. Also, even if they have created 200GB discs in a research environment there's still no guarantee that these will ever be cost effective for massproduction. We'll have to wait and see what happens

Regardless, that is a BFD! This aspect offers some "future proofing" for BD.

If we can get 8 layers. 200GB and a really high transfer rate, we can talk very low compression HD - matching the D5...!? And then there is the UHDTV that will come eventually... until video is better than film...!

Cheers!

Panasonic D5 is the tape format that the industry uses (for the most part) to record HD content. It is considered the reference by which more compressed versions of HD content are measured.
