Blue Underground has announced the erotic comedy/drama Quiet Days in Clichy for Blu-ray release on January 25, 2011. This adaptation of the Henry Miller novel, directed in 1970 by Jens Jorgen Thorsen, was seized by the US government on charges of obscenity. It was ultimately cleared in Federal Court, but the film mysteriously disappeared shortly after its release. Now more than 40 years later, this adults-only classic can be seen in a new high-definition transfer, completely uncut and uncensored, and featuring the original hit soundtrack by rock legend Country Joe McDonald.

Goodness the profile of that woman is getting me going a bit, not sure how much this movie appeals to me though. Don't recognize any of the cast members or the person who made this.

I am very much looking forward to it as the SDVD was one of the more disappointing releases from Blue Underground.

As much as I love Jens Jørgen Thorsen's movie I would much rather have Claude Chabrol's movie on Blu-ray:

Watched this last night (a retailer broke street). A very unusual film.

Content: Erotic film with art house sensibilities. Think Breathless plus explicit sex and folk songs. Not a porn film though it early on it does come close. A loose storyline predominates over the sex scenes. Lighthearted and reasonably unpretentious with some amusing moments.

PQ – 3.5 or 3.75. “Frozen grain” in a couple places. Seemed OK overall. Not as much detail as other B&W BDs I’ve seen. BD-25; in a few places I wondered whether it showed.

SQ – Mono; no complaints. Re: the soundtrack: looks as though much of the dialogue has been imperfectly dubbed in the studio.

Overall: Not for prudes. Recommended for the broad-minded. Keeper.

Except the final score, I mostly agree with the review (PQ section.

I think the reviewer makes one mistake: he complains about "stray hairs ... on the print". Presumably he's talking about occasional hair in the gate i.e. in the primary photography?
