I think the Canadian version just uses the existing US/CAN disc which is MPEG2 and LPCM 5.1.

According to this, it has both cuts of the movie (Original and Chronological) in HD. English DTS-HD MA 5.1 (16 bit) and high bitrate AVC encode.

You're probably aware, but just in case you missed:

Transfer is likely to be equal to/better than Japan's, so consider saving your money if you haven't already imported

Beware - the new "director approved" is ironically actually worse than the old one.

See here for details - colors may seem "fresher", but the lights clip and the sharpness seriously dropped in the b/w scenes.

This link doesn't seem to be working anymore. I am looking for some more details about this release. Does anyone here own it and could answer some questions about extras and the included Chronological cut?

English Dolby Digital 5.1
Geman DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 (48kHz/16bit)
Case type:Keep Case
Notes:All extras are in 576i, except where noted.
Trailers, filmographies, & production notes are in German, with no subtitles.
Website is in English, with no subtitles.
Short story is available in both English & German.
All other extras are in English, with optional German subtitles.
This release only includes a single version of the audio commentary.
Easter eggs:* The Film - Chronological Version (108:19)
- Highlight "Film Starten" and press right on your remote control, some letters will rearrange to form an alternate "Film Starten" option. This version is created by rearranging chapters of the film encode, causing this version to be missing the opening & closing credits from the complete Chronological Version, which are supposed to play in reverse order and motion from the standard version and include footage that is part of the film.
