Default Blake Edwards' 10 - Feb 1st 2011 Official Thread

Coming out Feb 1st 2011

10 Blu-ray

10 Blu-ray Review

“10”

Blake Edwards’ “10,” a spicy comedy of manners, morals and midlife crises, captures many moods, sometimes sexy, sometimes thoughtful, sometimes slapstick – but always on target. That target is 42-year-old composer George (Dudley Moore), a man who has everything (including patient singer girlfriend Julie Andrews) – and who may just chuck it all on an obsessive quest for a beautiful woman (Bo Derek) he glimpses en route to her wedding.
An iconic crowd-pleaser, “10” propelled the movie careers of Moore and Derek and gave Ravel’s Bolero a fiery new romantic context. And it stands as one of its director’s richest, most fully realized works.

“10” is the quintessential expression of mid-life crisis for the 1980’s and beyond!

· Vintage Featurette: A Dream…a Fantasy…a TEN!

Cool. Now bring on Arthur for its 30th anniversary(and to tie-in with the remake).

Can't you ever be satisfied with what you are given?

[Show spoiler]Sounds great! Oh, and while we are at it, I'd really love to have Victor/Victoria on BD. And yes, Arthur and the sequel would be fantastic as well.

Nice. 10 was great, I also second hoping we'll get Arthur to coincide with the remake/30th anniversary as well.

Nice to see Warner isn't slacking off on their catalog department like some other studios have.

(Although I've seen Warner has HD prints of Arthur on PS3/Netflix, so it's just a matter of getting over catalog-fear.)

Well, so far in the thread, there seems to be a LOT of wishing that it was Dudley Moore in Arthur, not 10...The movie just hasn't aged well.

Bo made cornrows hot in 1980, but knowing what we know now, it was the first of a long and somewhat creepy Blake Edwards phase for mid-life-crisis misogynism--Tied to otherwise good comic actors forced to trip over furniture like John Ritter. (In "Skin Deep".)
Which explains the wish that it was Blake's' "Victor/Victoria", as well.

Artwork for the release.

Not too bad... it isn't classic looking like the original poster art... but it isn't as bad as Pleasantville.

I thought I remember seeing a Dudley Moore film with Kirk Cameron switching places. I would imdb it, but it's more fun to try and remember.

I suppose people are talking about Arthur in this thread because they want more Dudley Moore movies, but I say forget that.

Where is the Bolero blu-ray?!?! It would make a great double feature with my Showgirls blu-ray.

new podcast on the film

Quote:
The sleeper hit of late 1979 was Blake Edwards’s sex farce 10, a comedic vivisection of a male midlife crisis, which turned 23-year-old California girl Bo Derek into a controversial cultural phenomenon. Derek’s early fame was framed in the media through the lens of her marriage to John Derek, who was 30 years her senior and who she met when she was 16. Today we’ll talk about Derek’s reign as a sex-positive bombshell in a time of extreme double standards, 10’s strangely prescient understanding of toxic masculinity, and the problem of how to frame teenage sexuality for adult consumption.
