Default Just curious how many SB collectors.......

Switch out region lock discs with ones you can actually play in your BR player just so you have the steelbook case of a movie you like or one that looks cool?

I've done this quite a bit although I said I never would at first.....lol

Damn SB's have got me good

I started with a rule for no Region B or C locked discs, but as you can see from my collection that rule went out the window rather quickly. Although I don't replace the discs in the case, I do buy the Region A version for viewing.

The only thing I would double dip is collector's edition or gift set and steelbook/ironpack.

But yes, I would swap any locked region discs (only have PS3, no region free player) and/or discs that doesn't provide English subtitle/CC with US discs, by doing so I'd have to buy US amarays which I don't mind if price is good.

I have already double dipped by buying extra steelbooks in addittion to Amarays for Watchmen, Star Trek, Terminator 2, and The Dark Knight.
Soon I will have to do the same for Avatar (when SE comes in a steelbook, hopefully) and Fight Club.

I've been pretty lucky....I had over 300 blus before I started collecting SBs so if I got a steel region locked I usually already had a disk to swap out. Then I would just put the region locked disc in the amarays case and sale on ebay or something to recoup a little money.

But so far I've really enjoyed collecting SBs since most are really cool artwork wise and this site is great in supporting the "past time" and its cool to have a place to come and bullshit about them with other cool like minded individuals.

The SBs i've had were either all from England or Germany, all being region B so I haven't had to double dip and swap out discs yet.

There hasn't been a SB interesting enough for me to import from the States, except maybe FS Iron Man or FS Transformers ROTF when I can finally afford them, but they are region free anyway.

Basically, been lucky so far.

I have a region free player so that really doesn't matter to me. I just started getting into the steelbook game and I have double dipped with 4 of the 7 I have. The only ones I don't plan on opening are the ones I will be getting from amazon.ca in Nov - 300, I Am Legend and The Dark Knight and my Iron Man 1+2 from Germany.

i mostly buy just for the steelcase anyway and wait to buy the Region 1 version..for instance I have Death Proof on blu-ray but I want the german steelbook. I'd just put the American version in there.

I don`t have such problem. I have a region-B player, so can watch every european steelbook release. The only north american steelbooks that i am intrested in, are released in Canada - but almost all of them are region free. So...

As far as i know the only north american steelbooks that are region locked are 6 James Bond movies...

Region doesn't matter at all! It's all about the steelbook..
So if it's not Region B, I just replace the disc.. Oh Yeah!

I've only done this for two movies: "DOA: Dead or Alive" (stupid French forced subs!) and "Total Recall" (stupid German censored version!).

I buy Blu-ray steelbooks for my son. If the release in not Region A or Region Free, I always get him the best US Region A release for viewing.

He keeps the original Region B Locked, (or Asian/European releases without English language/subtitles) discs with the steel they came with.

I have OCD so need rules for my Steelbook collecting otherwise it will cost me a small fortune

My Rules

# 1.The first rule of Steelbook collecting is All Steelbooks must be R2 playable.

# 2. The second rule of Steelbook collecting is All Steelbooks must be have only English writing on them, especially the spine!
(Futureshop Dark Knight & Iron Man 2 HK release are the only exceptions)

# 3. All Steelbooks must be movies I like & will watch time & again.

# 4. All Steelbooks must be in mint condition. Nothing missing, not one tiny little dent, scuff or scratch!
