A lot of "cons" listed in post 1 are NOT PS3 specific: they can happen to any console.
My personal opinion: ive been thrilled with my PS3 since day 1 (dec 4/06) and I wouldnt change anything. Sure its cheaper now, but owning one and being able to enjoy it for all those months before the price drops was worth it. My 1 single true beef is lack of in-game XMB for msging. But I can hardly complain, becuase I feel it was a steal even at the $600 i paid. |

I got to give MS some props. They did a lot better this generation getting some decent 3rd party support, and they are locking down some new franchises (IP's). Still not enough for me to risk buying what will end up as a paperweight once it breaks. yay..post 900 |

C-
The first year was bad for PS3, it was plagued by an initial high price of, $600 and this wasn't fixed until halfway through the year. When it was fixed consumers only had a brief time in which they could get the 60GB unit for still a steep $500. After that, consumers were basically sacraficing BC for a price cut. Now, BC shouldn't be that big of a deal, but the PS3 didn't start getting any decent games until fall or after 75% of the year had passed, so playing PS2 was a big deal. When the decent games did come out the first wave: Lair, Hevenly Sword, and Warhawk, only produced one great game: Warhawk. a very, very short, but beautiful Hevenly Sword, and well, there was Lair. R&C came out and was great and now there is COD4, Drake's Fortune, Rock Band, Guitar Hero, but considering those didn't come out until a few weeks before the 1st year anniversery and after a year of hell with very few good games, i don't really think they should be weighted very well.. Ports to the PS3 tended to be poor and choppy and delays were rampent. Also, until recently, the PS3 had piss poor advertising, rubix cubes and creepy babies were no way to sell consoles. Sony seems to be getting its act together, but the first year for PS3 was a poor one. The only reason it was able to sell a decent amount of consoles, was because many picked it up simply because it was the cheapest blu-ray player on the market and desperate price cuts in the fall. |

you are in a blu ray, therefore favoring ps3 forum. Any time you have something negative to say about blu ray games expect to be called on it. Some people will agree or disagree, and those are the right way to handle such occurences, but sometimes you'll have some person that believes every negative thing said about said console is a personal fight for them. Those people just need to be ignored. FOr instance. I found some stuff in your post that could be construed (sp) as BS as far as Im concerned. IDK how you give the ps3 an F, or what happened to make you dislike Ninja Gaiden of Warhawk. I straight up disagree, but I also understand you're entitled to your opinion and theres no reason to take a dump on your chest. ![]() |

It's fine to state constructive criticism, but you are going to get flamed when you overstate the point and without proof. For example, you state that "this does[n't]t even compare to the list of 360 apps that are better". Just list some 360 titles. Mass Effect, Orange Box, Halo 3, Gears and Bioshock? I have to tell you that the appeal of the 360 is FPS. This is where your "list" is flawed. |

I have no issues with the price of 60GB that I purchased when PS3 first hit store shelves...here is why...
As I stated, I have been a long time PC gamer and still think PC games are great...having said this, do you folks realize how much $$$ you have to throw down to get a decent gaming system? Without even considering anything else, a decent graphics card will cost you $300-$400 easy... Not to mention, my PS3, that I take very good care of (dust daily with an expensive cloth that I hide from my wife/kids, unplug on weekly basis etc etc) has never ever once given me any issues... For $600, I'd buy it over and over and over again...there is a reason why Sony is posting close to billion dollars in lost revenue from PS3...they gave it away... You can't look at what you paid, you have to look at what you got in return...and what you have in your possession is the single most money well spent item in your possession...which is why $500 for 80GB model with free game is the best deal, period! |

Hardware: A-
A bit more memory and a slightly beefier graphics chip would have been a good thing, but the PS3 still holds its own against the Xbox 360. Cell processor is a blessing and a curse - lots of available processing power, but you have to work harder to harness it. Hardware reliability is rock solid. Software: B- 2007 was supposed to be the big year for PS3 exclusives and that's somewhat fallen flat. Lair wasn't as bad as critics claimed, but it remains a fairly flawed game. Heavenly Sword is awesome and also got a bad rap in reviews. Metal Gear Solid 4 and Gran Turismo 5 were delayed, FFXIII still way off on the horizon, LittleBigPlanet still off on the horizon (but hopefully a beta this winter). Folklore is a great game that didn't get the attention it deserved. Ratchet and Clank and Uncharted: Drake's Fortune are really the first decidedly AAA exclusive games that have been getting proper recognition on the PS3. Multiplatform games have been steadily improving, but the first year saw a number of titles that suffered from bad ports (Madden '08 being the most egregious example). Online: B- PSN is still somewhat threadbare. Not enough downloadable content to keep active users happy, and occasionally bad performance during peak days (typically updates and such). Home delayed until next year. Lack of ability to send a message to a friend or reply to one from inside a game is a minus that should have been corrected early on (and still needs to be). The service is free, however, so much can be forgiven, and the overall impression remains good. |

I think it's A for me.
1. Good interface 2. compatibility to PS2/1 games (my model is the first batch out of Japan) 3. plays BD 4. Linux can be installed 5. Good graphic on PS3 games Disadvantages: 1. Bad selection of games (what can I get now? Almost none), but it will be great by next year (Tekken 6, Final Fantasy) 2. Hanged quite a lot 3. nothing more |

Well, it has been stated many times, but the fact the original XBox had less then a 4 year lifespan (with almost 2 of it having the 360 on it's back) and then having a year+ of development head start makes for a large gap in the consoles, thus the crappy PS3 ports. I still think NG Sigma was a fantastic game. Heavenly Sword was awesome but very quick. Haven't played Lair yet, but I have heard mixed reviews. Folklore was awesome albeit repetitive. Overall the software library has been good. Not great. Not spectacular. But good. This should be cleared up a bit more in the next year or so with some good exclusives, hopefully more properly coded games instead of ports and maybe even a few tricks up Sony's sleeve.
With BluRay becoming the 800lb gorilla of the market, things are looking very good on the HD front. I love the thought of being on the "winning" side of this if for no other reason then to spite a friend of mine. He's 100% M$ and HD-DVD and even doing side-by-side comparisons of the 2 where the BluRay kicked HD-DVD in the jibblies, he STILL refuses to admit he might be wrong and blamed it all on the 360. We did it again with the PS3 and a stand-alone and once again, the blinders were on but that time we did it with about 6-7 others present and he was the lone wolf of the party. Oh well. I love the BluRay and with 1.1 just around the corner, awesome times ahead. Lastly, as far as the physical hardware is concerned, I couldn't be more pleased. I have had the EXACT same amount of issues out of the PS3 as I did my PS2 and even the PSOne...zero. Flawless on the BluRay. Flawless on the hardware (no RRoD equivalent). And except for the truly rare times the controller locks a bit (and usually only specific games) no issues I can find. Besides, it doesn't sound like a Boeing 747 when I watch a DVD and I never have heat issues, even leaving Folding@Home running anytime I'm not playing. ![]() I'm definitely looking forward to the coming year and even tho I paid the full $600 for mine (12/28/06) I couldn't see myself buying any of the new consoles even with the reduced price. That Emotion chip makes up for too much being able to play my PS2 and PSOne titles. Overall an A- due to the crappy ports, no in-game XMB and the lack of being able to put playlists into games (for god sake Sony, ADD THIS) with a bright and hopeful outlook for 2008 and many years to come. ![]() |

Hmmm It is hard to rate it for me.
1) Excellent quality machine! Well built with no problems at all. Very few complaints. 2) Excellent graphics and video quality. With BD, DVD, CD, SACD playback and backward compatibility with PSone and PS2 games, it is the most versatile system yet! 3) Price has dropped a lot and for the price, it is the best system available. 4) Not enough games, too slow to come out. 5) Multi-platform games are just lacking in quality... stop porting them over like this! 6) Still not selling well enough in USA, but has a lot more sales every where else. I guess I could give it a B. It is the best value, price drops are worth it, and it is super high quality and very versatile, but it is still lacking in content and needs more updates. |

Also, hopefully blu ray playback 1.1 will be released along with more updates for the online features we are all waiting for like in game XMB access, custom soundtracks, in game messaging, achievements, more plug in support for the browser, etc. I fully expect to give Sony a better grade this time next year. |

B for the first year due to lack of games using the power of the PS3
Someone else stated it but to build a gaming PC a video card is easily 500-600 dollars by itself. I actually started messing with Linux, very difficult OS at first but a complete computer system, blu-ray player and gaming system for 599(60 gb) was not a bad deal. They already have emulators in Linux for Nitendo games and it was only the first year. |

Pros 1) Can't disagree with you here. Sony made an outstanding machine. No doubt about it. 2) Works as a blu-ray player. No need to buy anything extra. 3) Most of the games that have come out have shown what the ps3 can do, however I think that we have yet to see something that really uses the ps3 cell 100% and the RSX 100%, but a few games have come close to that number. 4) I can't disagree with you here even though I don't do online play. It's better then it was for the ps2. No monthly fees of any kind. No charge except to download content from the store. 5) It has taken a while, but the ps3 has been improved a lot since launch day. No doubt about that. 6) Sony has offered downloadable games for us to play. I think that both Sony and Microsoft are in the same boat here for downloadable content. Cons 1) This is a problem. Some games were just left over scraps from the 360 but keep in mind that the 360 was first. 2) There have been missing features not only for the PSN, but also for the ps3 such as lack of co op mode and with the exception of smackdown, no support for 7 players. 3) Game delays are something that we'll always have, but think of what would happen if the game hadn't been delayed in the first place. Would it have done as well. 4) Hopefully we'll have more downloadable content soon. 5) I think that the price was more of a debate. Ask yourself this, would you have paid $400 for an xbox 360, have it break on you and then have to send it in for repair, only to have the next one break on you, until you get a third one that doesn't break or get a ps3 and never have to think about the machine breaking? I think of it like this, "It's not what you pay for something, but what you get for the price." 6) I think that a lot of people out there wanted the ps3 to flop and the 360 to rule because the ps3 is based on blu-ray and this one factor alone took months to get up to speed to a point where it would get more popular. We'll find out what happens next year for sony and the ps3. Justin |

Richard, it is a FACT that the sports games from EA were better on the 360. Almost all (if not all) of the games were much smoother on the 360 because they were all running at 60fps. The PS3 versions, while they maybe looked similar, played like crap compared to the 360, only playing in 30fps. It was so bad on Madden ’08, that I chose to trade it in for NHL ’08 only to get another game in 30fps that was 60fps on the 360. EA has stated that this is now a problem of the past, and that they are now going to be developing games on the PS3 now that they have had time with the system and have saw it’s raw power. That being said, again, it is a FACT that those games were better on the 360, just to back up what Steelmaker is saying, so stop acting like he doesn’t know what he’s talking about, because he does. |

6. I think a lot of people were just bitter that they paid as much as they did for the 360 cause it was the only "next gen" out there and then simply refused to admit that maybe, just maybe, the deal wasn't quite as sweet once you added in the additional costs. I've still got $300 less then several of my friends invested and i truly feel, have more for my money. |
