India/Bollywood Suggestion on authoring Mohabbatein

Right, i am authoring my own bluray for Mohabbatein because its one of my favourite movies of all time and i need some suggestions for it like which areas i can improve on.

Source: YRF BD
Software: Adobe Encore CS5

If you guys want to see the difference between YRF and my ones here, let me know.

Wow!! Count me in buddy for any suggestions. And also as your first customer in case u plan to sell your final product .

I have a lot to say being the biggest fan of this film but rite now a bit busy in something else so will get bak.

however as a first, one thing is obvious- Audio- Get the vocals in songs to be only from center channel if possible.

Also , i did a comparison between Bodega and YRF DVD visuals on zulm.net . That should help u in some way i hope. Simply Search for the thread titled 'Mohabbatein DTS Bodega R2 PAL v/s YRF NTSC [DVD shots]'

Will add more once I get free. Man you really will be doing me and fans of the film a huge favor especially when there is already an unconfirmed comment about the audio gone bad on YRF BD which I am about to receive in the next couple of days.

Thanks

Hey Raul, if ur source is YRF BD then u already have it i guess? What is ur verdict on it? I know that ur attempt at re-authoring it answers it all but still, what do u have to say on BBR's comment on the other thread that during songs the sound is 'psuedo surround'?

From my color correction experience,

The YRF master is very red heavy on the whites,

Where as your re-encode leans a lot on the warmer yellows,

and you dont seem to be working on a calibrated monitor, your black levels are incorrect,

However you seem to have got the red tint issue in control for the most part, but the skin tones still show signs of a flush of red,

I dont know if you are able to work with masks or tracking data, that could really even out the small issues.

and get your hands on a professional monitor and check your output on a high-end plasma.

I recommend Lacie monitors, and Panasonic Plasmas.

^Thanks for your suggestions.

My black levels are correct. The problem was that i was working with the whole picture frame when i was supposed to be working with the movie only(exclude blackbars). Its late here in UK, will post proper screens tomorrow.

that was a 30 mins work. i can spend a whole day on it making it perfect, but whats the point? I'm doing this for my personal collection/as a hobby. Or maybe YRF will employ me to author their BDs

Wow Raul! just 30 mins work! Thats amazing. I wish yrf employs u.. atleast someone needs to tell them the meaning of 'making a BD for the fans'.

Raul, for some reason, I am unable to se the screen posssibly because of my slow connection speed ( i am able to see the other YRF thread SS very easily though). Is it possible for you to mail them to me? I am not a techie so dont expect me to giv any value adding suggestions. I can only tell as a layman film fan for how it is/should be acc to me.

Btw, any answer to the Pseudo suround question that I posted above?

Boosting contrast till whites clip and shadow detail goes away is not a desirable improvement in my books.

You boosted contrast, reduced dark level, and increased B and G levels. This makes the white shine and dark pixels merge forming a black slick.

Good effort nonetheless .

Yes, you have. At least on some of the low resolution samples you posted here. The whites on the shirt are now often clippy and shadow detail is reduced. You went for an exaggerated video look instead of a film look.
