Hi there,
I was wondering why if Blu-Ray discs can store so much data, how come titles like Blade Runner: Final Cut and Pirates of The Caribbean: At World End come out on double disc sets which raise the prices up further on an already expensive format. Why can the not fit on a single disc. I believe I remember being told that you could fit 24 half hour episodes on one Blu-Ray disc and yet if I'm not mistaken Smallville was on a 6 BD set. Does anyone know why this is??? Thanks |

^^that would be high compressed video the blade runner movie fits on one disc but the box set includes diffrent versions of the movie, so that mean more disc's. For POTC3, well to have room on one bd for the movie + the extras, that would mean compression of the movie. Since the movie is the primary reason/motive, it is given it's own disc with the best video & audio, then the 2nd disc is for the extera's. |

Also to include the extras takes up space. Most would rather have great video and audio quality than sacrifice either to add extras. Just look at what happened to the Transformers HD DVD. They had a decent video quality, bad audio options (even the director, Michael Bay was upset because of HD DVD's storage limitations and loss of audio options) But you got some features that may never be used by most viewers, or used once. As far as the price goes it is not really any different than most single disc sets. The $29.99 price is pretty standard but you can get it for $24 at Amazon. The only ones you can get cheaper are many catalog titles from WB for less than $20, again on amazon. |

Ah OK so it is primarily to give the movie the most space possible for the best audio/video quality, ok thanks for that. Just another quicky Lord of the Rings Extended was on 2 DVDs per movie + extras on 2 more discs, do you guys think it will just be one Blu-Ray +extras disc?
