Default Your five favourite move scenes.

I thought it would be interesting for members to post there favourite five movie scenes, and explain why they are there favourite. Please state the movie and put the explanation and what scene it is behind spoiler tags.

1) Let The Right One In:
[Show spoiler]The Blood Kiss and Eli's leaving. The first time I saw this scene I was in tears at the sheer beauty of it. The score that slowly starts to play softly and reaches a crescendo us we cut to Oskar walking back into his apartment is simply mesmerizing. It is also genuinely amazing that they made a blood kiss between two twelve year olds not get laughed at, and rather be genuinely an emotional moment, yet surrounded by sadness as Eli's inevitable leaving is revealed.

2) Lost In Translation:
[Show spoiler]The Unheard Goodbye. By this I mean Bob and Charlotte's goodbye, when Bob says something that is muffled and the audience can't here. I love this scene as the two characters form a relationship that in my mind earns them their own moment that does not need to be heard by anyone to make its emotional punch.

3) La Vie En Rose:
[Show spoiler]The scene where Edith discovers about Marcel fate. This scene is all in one shot, which starts with her imagining Marcel and ends with her walking out on stage. The raw emotion in this scene is simply staggering, and though it is all done in a single shot it never feels as if it exists to show off, rather it emphasizes the emotion all the individual characters are felling and force the viewer to enter Ediths world.

4) Blade Runner:
[Show spoiler]This scene is largely a result of Batty's final moments when he says, "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time. Like tears in rain. Time to die". I find there to be something almost poetic to these words, and the performance he gives is astounding and the dove flying off symbolizes the significance of this moment. Of course the fantastic visuals are still present throughout this scene as they are throughout the entire film.

5) Metropolis:
[Show spoiler]The introduction to this film is simply marvellous, with the two 'worlds' juxtaposed which further emphasizes what is to come in the film as well as making you genuinely invested in this odd world and story. Beyond that it is simply amazing to look at, and I have many found memories of watching this when I was growing up.

1) Let The Right One In.
[Show spoiler]The Ending scene when the girl kills all bad boys in the pool while the boy is under watre, and the scene when the girl kills his old helper.

2) Terminator 2
[Show spoiler]When two terminators first face each other and bang each others heads on walls, a dream come true, 2 terminators beating hell out of each other. Also, the the washroom faceup of Terminators in Terminator 3

3) Matrix Reloaded
[Show spoiler]The dancing scene in the cave. Its so fun.

4) Ratatouille
[Show spoiler]Almost every scene is a marvel to look at. Especially the ending when the final song starts, as well as when the judge tastes the food and gets shocked, as well as when the inspector enters enters and sees all rats working in the kitchen.

My final choice as # 5.

Rocky 1,2,3,4,5,6
[Show spoiler]Basically when he trains. Its so arousing I almost want to train with him.
Plus the scene in Rocky Balboa where he explains his son that he needs to stop looking at what other people teel him to be. He is so convincing in that role.

Remember to explain why. I think that is the interesting part as its about what makes a scene truly memorable to the individual.

not in any particular order :

Platoon
[Show spoiler]death of Willem Dafoe/Sgt. Elias - just breathtaking, beautiful and sad.

Apocalypse.Now
[Show spoiler]the bridge scene, where the boat lands at night and rockets are lighting the sky and Sheen/Willard visits the trench. it`s like hell on earth an Jimi Hendirx playing in the background - if I remember corretly.

Blade Runner
[Show spoiler]dying of Roy Batty - dying in the rain - what more do you want ... ?

Heat
[Show spoiler]the bank robbery / street fighting scene - done superbly - and the cast is magnificent, you feel like ducking for cover.

Blair Witch Project
[Show spoiler]any scene at night when the girl is talking at camera and is very frightened - those are truly scary, I`ve always liked more to be hidden, not showed - like in that scene. you won`t see any actor in stupid costume coming behind trees - all is in your mind ...

runner up - sorry :

Full Metal Jacket
[Show spoiler]the sniper scene - when one man is laying on the ground and gets hit by the sniper time after time - and his mates can`t do nothing but watch - sad, beautiful ...

[Show spoiler]... it seems death and closeness of it gets me ...

...ask me next week and couple might have changed, there are so many memorable scenes in so many films ...

5.LOTR: The Return of The King
[Show spoiler]The Charge on Osgiliath with the song in the background. The juxtaposition of the disillusioned Steward and his loyal son, offset by the melancholy melody.

4.Planet of the Apes
[Show spoiler]Statue of Liberty. IMO, one of the best "reveals" ever. Tragically beautiful.

3.Casablanca
[Show spoiler]The Long Goodbye. An absolute classic, what more can be said.

2.The Godfather
[Show spoiler]The Mane Scene. Horse's head in bed. The whole sequence with the director leading up to this shocking conclusion.

1.Saving Private Ryan
[Show spoiler]D-day. Devastatingly beautiful.

Honorable mention for this week's releases: Moulin Rouge
[Show spoiler]"Roxanne"

Apocalypse Now
[Show spoiler]The begining with The End playing. Every single Brando's speech. Thats several scenes tho.

2046
[Show spoiler]Naming just one scene would be impossible to me, all i can say its that the entire movie its pure art.

Dead Man
[Show spoiler]This movie have tons of memorable scenes to me aswell, but lets say for example the one that Johnny Depp ask those twin bros if they have heard his poetry and then bang bang, or the first line of the movie which says: "it is preferable not to travel with a dead man". Also the peyotl scene where nobody look at William (Johnny Depp) and see the skull of him as he is already dead

The Doors
[Show spoiler]This is just because i'm a die hard fan of The Doors music and Jim's poetry, not that i like the movie much since it has little to do with them actually, anyhow, the first scene of the movie, with Riders of the storm in the back ground, and Val Kilmer doing a nice job imitating* Jim's voice saying: Let me tell you about heartache and the loss of god
Wandering, wandering in hopeless night
Out here in the perimeter there are no stars
Out here we is stoned
Immaculate.

The Big Blue
[Show spoiler]Jackes going down in the water to stay -and die- where he belongs to, the sea, far away from people, enjoying the peace of the ocean and its dolphins.

I was thinking about that earlier; it was wicked!

These might not be my top five, but here goes:

Back to the Future
[Show spoiler]The whole sequence with Marty traveling back to the future is incredibly epic. The effects work so well, and the pacing is just perfect.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
[Show spoiler]When Harry protects himself from the dementors. It's crazy cool that there are two Harrys at the same time.

Live Free or Die Hard
[Show spoiler]When John McClane shoots the bad dude through himself. That's got to be one of the most badass movie moments of all time.

LOTR: The Return of the King
[Show spoiler]There are so many good moments to choose from. My personal favorite is when Legolas is killing the Haradrim on the Mumakil, because it's completely impossible and astounding.

And of course Planet of the Apes, which was already mentioned.

"Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi"
[Show spoiler]Luke vs Vader. I think it's very intense, especially as Luke dabbles in the dark side himself and angrily bashes on Vader's saber. Then, when the Emperor is zapping Luke and Vader is looking back and forth in indecision, I love seeing him making the choice and redeeming himself. I think it's the most powerful scene in the whole saga. The space battle's cool too.

"Terminator 2: Judgment Day"
[Show spoiler]Sarah Connor's dream sequence. Pretty damn scary. More importantly, I think it's a significant shift in her character, and effectively shows how she's grown harder and stronger over the years. And the nuclear blast is something cool and terrifying all at once. It's especially interesting seeing the alternate versions of the movie, which have more dream scenes, and one alternate ending taking place at the same park.

"Star Trek" 2009
[Show spoiler]The entire opening sequence, in which George Kirk sacrifices himself to save his crew and his family. Not only is it intense and suspenseful, but it's also tragic, and always makes me want to cry.

"Lord of the Rings: Return of the King."
[Show spoiler]So much of this film saga is awe-inspiring and beautiful as it is. But something about seeing the Ring and Mordor being destroyed and the Eye of Sauron exploding really brings a tear to my eyes. Finally, the quest is accomplished! Evil is vanquished! Yay!!!

"The Passion of the Christ."
[Show spoiler]The second-to-last shot, showing Mary tolding Jesus' body. It's a very tragic scene, and it's composed in a way that looks a lot like a classical painting. Like the rest of the movie, it's beautiful, brutal, and tragic all at once.

no order:

Apocalypse Now
[Show spoiler]when Willard and his "crew" are all the way up the river and they come across the natives where Kurtz is. everyone is silent, the water is calm, the music is perfect (slow, low drum beating) and it's incredibly eerie. that was the moment the film was really cemented as "great" and became and a personal favorite for me

2001: A Space Odyssey
[Show spoiler]near the end when the astronaut (can't remember his name ) is flying through space / time and we see all the wicked colors. nothing like that before or since, and it's almost hard to watch but it mesmerizes me every time i watch the film.

There Will Be Blood
[Show spoiler]end when Plainview kills Eli with the bowling pin and mocks him relentlessly. i loved the entire film, but this scene was definitely the defining moment on this delicious milkshake and i love it because there's so much tension, so much hatred between the characters and Plainview was right about Eli - he was a fraud. and i never expected him to get beat to death! that was shocking and i loved it.

Toy Story
[Show spoiler]the car chase scene as Buzz and Woody are trying to get up to the moving truck. all of it was pure genius. having RC try and help them, using the rocket, and hearing The Lion King song play in the car was all fantastic. loved it i was 7 when the film came out and it was my favorite film for a long time and that scene had my jaw on the floor. good memories to say the least

The Bourne Ultimatum
[Show spoiler]the rooftop chase / fight sequence. it's so frantic, hectic and crazy. the lack of music during the fight - just listening to the blows landing - was a genius decision. and the whole scene is like 10 minutes long! easily one of the best fight / chase sequences ever. love it because it certainly isn't like anything else i've seen before, and every time Bourne jumps through that window i get goosebumps.

The Shawshank Redemption
[Show spoiler]The flashback showing how Andy Dufresne escaped. Just brilliant!

A Bronx Tale
[Show spoiler]The scene where the bikers went into Sonny's bar and started trouble.

Porky's
[Show spoiler]The Lassie scene with the guys laughing out loud in the gym during PE.

Bad Boys II
[Show spoiler]The part where that boy comes to take Marcus's daughter out and Marcus and Mike scare the boy.

8 Mile
[Show spoiler]The freestyle battle at the end. Eminem killed it!

Got Em!!

Well, its one of those movies that you love or hate, and that gets better after several viewings*

Also, if you have seen the rest of Won Kar Wai films, you'll find lots of conections in 2046

Hope you like it!

Why is that a bad thing?
I keep seeing people complaining about the ending being too long.
Yet, if they had cut it, people would have complained that it's not true to the book.

No I like most of the endings, with the boat scene being my favorite. I was merely joking how you described it, accurately, as the ending of the conflict, despite the fact that the movie was still nowhere near the end. I kid because I love.

To get back on track, here is one which I probably should have included on my list:

Star Wars Epsiode V: The Empire Strikes Back

[Show spoiler]Issues with Daddy scene. The on set dialogue of "I killed your father," is replaced by a classic cinema reveal.
