So, title says it all.
Please, dont choose movies based on "that you dont like but the majority likes" only. Also mention movies that you personally think (without others influence) that are great movies, just not your cup of tea. ![]() |

Probably too many to list, but regarding movies that are great but not my "cup of tea," the top ones that come to mind are:
"Casablanca." Probably will give it another try sometime. Back in the day when I saw it, I thought it had good visuals and all, but thought the story was dull. "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button." A well-made film and all, but I never saw the appeal of the "story." "Gone with the Wind." Actually not a bad film at all. Just a little long and sappy. It's one of those cases where I'm not really sure if I want to buy a copy or not... |

Interesting question.
![]() For me I'd have to go with Aliens, because it's by far the most dated out of the four and didn't have as many greats moments as implied by its reputation, but I still think it's a good film and can understand why so many love it. ![]() |

For some reason, I don't like most movie musicals, regardless of great reviews and awards: Chicago, Sweene Todd, Hairspray, Rent, etc. I may watch them for a while, but almost always fast forward or just give-up. The musicals I have watched in the Theater have been awesome, but on the movie screen, they just seem out of place to me. I have tried but just cringe when they start to sing and dance. The two exceptions that I was able to sit through were Moulin Rouge and Phantom of the Opera.

Thank you. Finally someone agrees with me. We had this debate before and I just dont see how u can call a film great when u dont like it? Mind boggling. Squid made a cool point that certain aspects of a film u may not like may be great like direction, acting etc...and I agree with that but if I dont like the overall film then it wont be considered great to me. Got Em!!

The Godfather to start with. It's a movie where I can see the importance it as in the history of cinema but it's a movie that just started way too many strikes against it for me to actually enjoy it. I find it long and just not very interestinf for me. The reasons, to beging with I am not that fond of gangsters movies unless they have Humphrey Bogart in them
![]() Most gangsters movies just don't have much chances with me. The one I did like that was made in the last 50 years was The Untouchables but the main reason for it is Sean Connery. Take him out of that movie and well it doesn't have much for me. Another person for which I don't have great liking but do respect as a director is Stanley Kubrick. Seen all of his movies at least once each and can clearly see the talent he had as a director but his style is just not something I can enjoy. His only movie I have seen more then once is 2001, everything else once was just enough for me. The thing with me is that I am extremely curious and as such I will not refuse to see a movie just because it fall's out of my comfort zone or as story and actors I may not like. I will see it and I will never say in a post anywhere that the movie is boring. It's not boring, I just do not like it and there lies the difference. Of course what I hate is being jumped on by fanboys in forum because I dare say that their favorite movie of the moment is not something I enjoyed. ![]() |

The over-celebrated Lawrence of Arabia.
Not half as great as commonly supposed, but sure, great, why not. Nice cinematography and a good 2.5 h content stretched out over 4. IMO, essentially a lazy edit of a much better film. I wonder how long the workprint was. 12 hours? |

Annie Hall. Some of the fourth-wall stuff was probably pretty ground-breaking, and the whole Woody Allen persona that exists today was basically formed from this film. But the Woody Allen persona is annoying to me. Diane Keaton was right for dumping him for a short, balding Paul Simon (Allen must have been looking for someone who was both a worse actor and a worse physical specimen than himself).
