Is there a Blu-ray Player that has all the advanced audio codec decoders in it ?. Many I've found lack the ability to decode dts-HD Master in the player and send it over LPCM digital bitstream via HDMI 1.1 or 1.3 to a pre-amp or receiver for amplification. Which of all the players offers the most advanced audio codec decoding? [Jim]

There are currently no players that can decode DTS-Master Audio, only bitstream. I think you might be waiting a while for that as I hear that decoding Master Audio can be taxing. In turn, that takes away from the memory needed to playback a BD so you may just have to settle or get a new reciever!

OK, thanks. With so many Blu-Ray movies having dts-HD Master Audio as a audio selection option, how does one benefit from that advanced audio codec?

Get a reciever that can bitstream the DTS-MA signal (Samsung BD-P1400, Panasonic BD-30, Pioneer BD95) and then pair it with a capable reciever. Like the new Onkyos and some of the pioneer elites. I think Yamaha and Denon have capable recievers as well. I was very happy I upgraded my reciever to the Onkyo 805, DTS-MA is quite the spectacle!

The Samsung BD-UP5000 will be out Jan 15th and can decode DTS-HDMA internally and it has 7.1 multi-channel analog out. They had a model 2400 that was going to do all this too (and it was cheaper -- the 5000 is a dual format player) but they canned it.

Unless you never plan to upgrade to something that can decode the new formats, I would rather have the audio decoding done outside the player for the best SQ.

A player with DTS-HD MA internal decoding (and dolby true-HD) with analog output would be a great addition for people who doesn't want to upgrade their AV receiver.
I wait for a player like this with a price tag at about 500$ before recommending to make the jumb in the blu-ray boat (my parents and godparents). They can't use the PS3 because it only output the Hi def audio codec through HDMI and their receivers do not have this function (1 year old AV receiver). I think that a Hi-def experience is not just the picture, but also the immersing crystal clear sound. |
