Default Renting Movies at Blockbuster

So today I had a bunch of friends over to watch Superbad. I figured I'd just head to the local Blockbuster and rent it. Turns out only 3 out of the 10 Blockbusters near me rent Blu-ray movies, and out of those only 1 had Superbad (only 2 copies total -> Parsippany, NJ). I read at least 10 articles about how Blockbuster piloted both Blu-ray and HD DVD and settled on Blu-ray. I live in North-Eastern NJ which is one of the most densely populated regions in the US. I figured of all places, it should not be a problem. This is crap.

Yeah you can check their website to see which stores have blu. They usually pick the areas that are wealthier and thus have a higher likelihood to have a bluray setup, which is very expensive and still out of reach for most middle class Americans who aren't AV enthusiasts.

They are a for profit business, and as much as they fully support blu-ray now, I am sure the top brass is still worried if hd-dvd will win out in the end. Thats why you probably won't see it in all stores until you get a clear winner

I actually live in the 6th wealthiest county in the US (Morris County, NJ). ref: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Highest...00000B-QINU.07 . It used to be #2. Of all places, you would think it should be easily available.

Well I guess thats why you have 3 out of 10. I live in Vegas and I have 3 out of 15. Vegas happens to be the city with highest average credit card debt and right now highest mortgage payment delinquency rate. I am not sure about the foreclosures but I am pretty sure we're up there.

Viva Las Vegas

I live next to a pilot store and we have both hddvd and blu still. to top it off, they are still buying new hddvds. I asked the manager what the hell and he said that the pilot stores will still be bringing in the popular hddvd titles. In addition, they never have blus when they first come out, no matter how big the movie is. It seems the bigger the movie, the longer the wait for the blu sometimes.

Next time, so not to piss off your friends you've gathered for a viewing session, BUY THE MOVIE FIRST.

I live in the 9th wealthiest city in the US (Rochester, MN). ref: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metropo...ates_by_income and we don't even have a brick and mortar blockbuster location... period. Used to have 3, they all shut down a few years back.

Yeah I have one within five minutes from my gf's house. THey have 5 shelves of bd to 1 shelf of hd dvd, yet they are usually out of any new blues that come out. It's dissappointing, but hey, eventually they'll be stocked next to the sd discs. Hopefully in a year?
