Default Sony’s DHG-HDD250 and DHG-HDD500 HD DVRs are NOT blu-ray!

http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTE...HDDVRs&Dept=tv

That is the Sony link of the the HD recorders. It seems it can replace my Sony HD-300 tuner and give me HD recording ability. woo hoo

It has no dvd drive to burn movies, but I can transfer them to my DVD recorder via s-video like I do now. Won't be HD (sigh) but I can still enjoy my favorite shows in HD when I want to watch them.

In France, there will be the TNT, Television Numérique Terrestre, and it will be able to broadcast HDTV with low bandwith, thanks to the MPEG-4 ! But, for others broadcasting, it will be the older MPEG-2 compression... Sigh...

What is with Japan and the US so far ahead in the HDTV format? It is really starting to pee me off. I guess we 'Ropes and Can's better start a technology revolution!

How ironic, you being in Canada, you can see the Niagra Falls in person.
I could only see it on the PBS HD channel.

Canada may be waiting out the who thing to see who's system is better. Over seas, HD is transmitted via VHF and yields great wireless reception. In the USA, we use UHF and wireless reception is tricky. I should know...I am trying to get all the digital channels with an antenna.

I would prefer digital satellite HD signals rather then antenna reception. In Canada, antenna reception has been nearly eliminated due to poor signal being recepted on basic anologue channels.

I just can not imagine trying to get free HD signals from an antenna, it just seems so barbaric from my viewpoint. :P

I plan on buying the Sony DHG-HDD500. I just wish it were out already as originally planned. Now many stores are saying it won't be available until at least April '05.
