food for thought: why are new releases for media software (cd's dvd's video games) released every tuesday?

i understand why movies for the box office are released on friday...it only makes sense since they will draw the biggest crowds on the weekends....does anyone know why?!?!?! thanks in advance...

gives the stores time to coordinate special midnight sales on Monday
evening, as opposed to Sunday, which is usually a shorter work day[3]

This practice appears to have been followed for 20 years[2,3]

although, movies now are starting to come out on wednesdays, sometimes as early as tuesday nights (11:59pm), so not sure why the lines are being blurred.
