Default Babylon 5: my first time through

I just picked up seasons 1, 3-5 from best buy (2 was out of stock) and I'm sitting down to watch it for the first time.

Just finished "Midnight on the Firing Line" and I felt it was a GREAT start to the show. The effects are VERY dated, and the make-up is classic 90's but the writing/story is fantastic! It certainy seems like a timeless program from what I've seen. Can't wait for more!

4.5/5

also, what are the movies?

Thoughts on "Soul Hunter":

Another great episode. I like the writing and the setting a lot. It's gritty and intoxicatingly addictive. This episodes plot line was just as interesting as the pilot. It was paced well and had a good "Bad Guy" while pffereing a nice moral debate.

Don't get used to the captain of B5. he's gets replaced and totally Powned by Bruce Boxleightner.

I was disappointed at first but I thought Sheridan was AWESOME after the 1st half of season 2.

Glad to see another B5 convert. I have watched the complete series 4 times and will hit 5 in a couple months while I am away from home for a while.

The show does get better and better and the acting and storyline, at least in my mind, is great.

Only wish that they would blu up this series though I suspect it never will happen.

The only movie you should watch before finishing the series is the pilot, The Gathering. While In The Beginning is good, it spoils a lot of the series. The others don't spoil anything, but they are better watched after season 4, or when you've finished the whole series. There will be a couple of slow eps in season 1, but remember they have to introduce you to a LOT. I still believe seasons 3 and 4 are some of the best TV ever produced.

Sheridan was great but I enjoyed the style of Sinclair. Sheridan reminded me of Kirk while Sinclair was more Picard, different style. The series was amazing however. Too bad not many people got on board when it was playing.

To me the show only really started in season 3 (although there is a ton of references to Sinclair and what happens to Delen later on, so hard to just bypass 1 & 2).
Season 3 and 4 are particularly epic, 5 is good too but lacking some elements due to the rush of things in season 4 (forced by network shutting down B5 at the time).

You are in for a treat, but if you like B5 don't forget to check DS9 as well (in case you've never seen it). Slow to start as well, but from season 3 nonstop to season 7 it's great as well.

G'Kar & Lyta FTW!

Seasons 2-4 r excellent. One is an acquired taste and five, well, there's also a 5th season. What I like and hate about the B5 middle years is that JMS wrote most of the episodes himself. The good news is it gave the characters and the plot an incredible consistency that's hard to get with a team of writers. What bad is Im not a big fan of his writing style. It is petty compelling tv though and a lot of fun.

This thread gives you an idea in what order you should watch things....https://forum.blu-ray.com/television...rs-please.html

You also really need to get season 2. I agree seasons 3 & 4 are the best but season 2 is at least 3rd best and does a great job setting up the later seasons.

Season 5 is a bit weaker which is pretty much due to the fact the network couldn't decide to pick up the show again so Stracyzinski? rushed the story arc to finish in season 4.

It's interesting to note that the series finale Sleeping in Light was filmed and meant to end season 4, but then the show was renewed late. The replacement finale for S4 while ok is a bit weak.

edit: Also, I wouldn't expect blu-rays of the series. If I recall the way the show was filmed really doesn't make blu-rays likely.

Don't hold your breath. The way it was shot/post produced it's very unlikely there will be a BD release of this unless they redid all of the FX, which is extremely unlikely. Do yourself a favor and watch it.

If you like season 1, it only gets better. Weird you mention season 2 being out of stock-- I saw this on sale at Best Buy and the one near me was the same way-- everything but season 2.

All I need are the movies. A few years ago I got the season sets for $9.99 each, a steal back then. I can't believe they are still asking almost $50 for the movie boxset. I'll have to keep an eye on that during Black Friday or use some of my reward points. I recently picked up Crusade for $9.99 used at Movie Stop. I really wish that series had caught on. I also found The Lost Tales for $5 at Blockbuster. I think I may start re-watching this again, even though it's almost committed to memory.

I guess I'll get started on collecting the dvds then, Sucks though.
I just saw the list from the other thread, it's quite a bit.

P.S. Funny, gamma here and groo the perverted in other thread are the two guys I've argued with the most about Lost S6
May be I'll find Babylon 5 less controversial.
