Amazon tends to give titles that release date when they have no idea when it's coming out...that's not the actual release date.

Yeah really...I could use a few weeks off, but for whatever reason I can't stop buying. I think I have a problem and I need help.

Depends...what if the first confirmed title is something that doesn't need that much space. I'd say by 2010 if things all go well the 100GB should be used for movies, but maybe I'm just hoping.

I think potentially LOTR could be the first to use BD100's. They're certainly going to need a lot of room for a high bitrate encode on films that are around 4 hours long, especially when you add PCM and commentaries too.

I just hope these films aren't released until after HD-DVD is dead and buried, because we need the highest possible encode and if there is any chance it could be released on both formats you know it would be dumbed down to fit the inferior format, which would mean we lose out.

I wonder what the latest pre-order date is for a HD-DVD, anything later than mid 2008 is being a bit optimistic really

you took the words right out of my mouth.
They date stuff years ahead to avoid it becoming available and not be in stock

best buy wont be getting it at all ever because i just checked and it only showed the hd-dvd version and it said December 11, 2007 but it said not available because of it being started with an sku of the number 1 (thats how best buy works)

As people have said, that date is just a placholder because they don't know when they will get stock. Another common one you see around "12/12/2012".

I just got an email a few days back from Warner saying it's backordered due to massive demand for the title.
