Default Legend of the Fist: The Return of Chen Zhen (2010)

Legend of the Fist: The Return of Chen Zhen Blu-ray pre-order

Legend of the Fist: The Return of Chen Zhen Collectors Edition Blu-ray pre-order

So I received an email from YesAsia about the upcoming release of "Legend of the Fist - The Return of Chen Zhen" starring Donnie Yen. I had heard nothing of this movie but I am a Donnie Yen fan. The movie is suppose to follow the character made famous by Bruce Lee in Fist of Fury (The Chinese Connection). The reviews I could find seem to be favorable of the movie.

Here is a review: http://www.beyondhollywood.com/legen...-movie-review/

Here is a trailer:

An extended fight scene:

Behind the Scenes Footage:

I'm thinking about importing this movie based on what I've read and seen. Is currently available for pre-order with the release date set for this week November 18. Donnie Yen kickin' butt...Anyone else up for this? By the way, the Hong Kong version is Region A.

It looks awesome, but it's been getting mediocre to poor reviews. Here's the Asian thread on this blu-ray and movie if you are all curious:

Wow, that's too bad. Well, I did read some positive reviews. I may still pick it up, but after a blu-ray review. Thanks for the link. For whatever reason, the search on this site did not find that post.

I liked this movie. There's nothing remotely groundbreaking or even slightly original about this film but fans wont be disappointed. Its a straight forward fight flick with some great art direction & production design and of course very slick action scenes designed by Donnie Yen himself. I actually loved the scenes with Donnie dressed as Kato and wouldve liked to see more. Its a good movie.

BTW, WellGo USA's version will drop on June 14th, 2011 and is up for preorder:

Legend of the Fist: The Return of Chen Zhen Blu-ray

Legend of the Fist: The Return of Chen Zhen Collectors Edition Blu-ray

I saw this last fall at a film festival. I was turned off by the ugly, chauvantistic Chinese nationalism that was a major theme of the film. (I know, there's plenty of counter-examples in Hollywood movies.) The plot is patently absurd (not a surprise). Most important to OP, I suspect, the martial arts were passable, but to be honest nothing really overwhelmed me.

I coud only recommend this as a rental.

They thankfully pricematched Walmart's online price. I pre-ordered the collector's edition, but since the regular edition dropped and actually looks nicer, I'll be getting that one.

All I know is that it has one extra bonus feature (at least from what I read) Both are two discs... regular has BD and DVD versions of the movie and collector's has BD and Bonus features on seperate disc

I'm wondering the same thing, regular edition is down to $14.99 on Amazon and collector's is still $29.99, not sure the extra content is worth the extra $15.

Oh ok - I can live with that then. More concerned that they're not pulling a "RED" and doing a standard audio track on the regular edition and the HD track only on the special edition.

A few months ago I criticized the UK disc for not including the Cantonese track but it turns out that Well Go USA's disc doesnt have one either. I guess Mandarin is being sold as the original language, which kinda pisses me off becuz the Cantonese track features the main actors' real voices. So if youve preordered it just be prepared for some annoying Mandarin overdubbing!

The Cantonese track is looped too. Shu Qi doesn't speak Cantonese and Donnie Yen, being so whitewashed (think older Edison Chen/Leehom Wang), has shaky Cantonese, and Mandarin for that matter. Not hearing their real voices in Chinese movies is sometimes best. Jet Li, Chow Yun Fat, Michelle Yeoh (who doesn't even speak Chinese) for instance have terrible voices.

Yes I realize the Cantonese track is post looped and I get your point about the "language barrier" of sorts. My point is that when all the trailers first premiered it was clearly in Cantonese. I got the impression that this was a Cantonese film. The main actors (Donnie, Anthony Wong & even Shu Qi) dub their own lines. The HK blu defaults to the Cantonese version. Its no longer a debate becuz its now clear Mandarin is the "official" language but it wouldve been nice if Well Go USA had included a Cantonese track as well.
