Default Samsung 1400 BD-P $299 at Best Buy

Ok..I went to my local Best Buy today and noticed that the Samsung 1400BD- P is only $299, same price now is listed online. There were three Blu-ray displays: Sony, Samsung, and Sharp in the store aisle. In addition in the Maganolia theater are there was a huge Sony Blu-ray display with many titles and at least 30 Sony 300 S players stacked in the center. Obviously, all of the HD Theater system were using Blu-ray players. The Blu-ray movie section was filled with people buying Blus (did not notice any takers on the HD DVD side ). One of the store managers is a friend on mine for college and we talked for a while, he told me that they had 50 Superbad blu-rays and all had been sold; in addition they had around 250 copies of POTC3 on tuesday and he estimates that less than 100 remain. Things are looking great for us. All that fun while my wife searched for a CD

I think this is a permanent price because Circuit City has it at $299 too.

Finally, the stand alone prices are dropping. This is exactly what needed to happen and it has.

Hi, I am new to this forum, and I have some questions, about this Warner thing. Just as background I am currently a HD DVD supporter but I am going to buy a Blu-Ray player. I am waiting for Warner to tell us what we already know that they are going Blu. can anyone explain to me Profil 1.1 and 2.0 and if I buy a player that is not 1.1 or 2.0 can I update the player or should I buy a PS3 or wait for a 2.0 player? I dont want to buy a player only to have to buy another and hear my wife wine to me for like ever. thanks.

I believe the only differences between Profile 1.1 and Profile 2.0 are 2.0 requires Internet Connectivity, and 1GB local storage capability vs 256MB.

All in all unless you really plan on using the internet connectivity, I know I dont (dont have internet in connectivity in my living room) Profile 2.0 isnt all that big of a deal.

For $279, that Samsung is a really sweet deal. Finally a player that would make me think twice about whether or not the PS3 is the best bang for the buck. The Samsung with firmware upgrade supports DTS-HD, which is also a major plus!

No problem, I hope you enjoy whatever you wind up getting. I am sure you will be happy. If nothing else, your library of available titles will grow considerably.

I had them price adjust and take the 12% off. I ended up with 135 dollars back.
So I bought all 5 Harry Potter HD-DVD's +Mask Zorro+Day Of The Dead BD's.
Thank you Best Buy (or should I Samsung)

If my dad decides to convert to Blu, this player is the one I'm going to steer him to. I recently bought an Onkyo 605 A/V receiver for him for Christmas and will present it to him early next week (after finals!), using the PS3 as the showcasing player. He doesn't have any hi-def experience except a DVD upscaler, and even then, that's not hi-def. He made me laugh when he said he couldn't tell the difference between DVD and hi-def (using the upscaler as reference). So, I'm doing him a favor by showing him what hi-def really is with the Onkyo 605, his 7.1 speaker setup, and the PS3. Hopefully, he will be swayed to take Blu and not red.

Anyway, like I said, if he does do Blu, I'll lead him to this player. I have a question about it, though. Does this player specifically do bitstreaming on Dolby TrueHD and DTS-MA tracks? I don't want to buy it and then end up finding it decodes lossless tracks internally (I want to see TrueHD and DTS-MA on the receiver, darn it!)
