Stringer acknowledged it was still unclear which next-generation video platform will emerge the winner, although he said Blu-ray disc, the standard Sony backs, appeared to be ahead of the competing HD DVD format, backed by Toshiba Corp. and others.

"We have momentum," he said. "But that's all we have at the moment."

He seriously shouldn't be allowed to speak about bluray/HDDVD anymore.

Everytime he does, he just gives more fodder to the HDDVD group.

He is talking about the PS3 and the future of Sony, his plans through March. ANd they just sort of stuck that on the end. It doesn't sound like it fits at all.
I don't take this seriously at all.

I know Max and some others have told us to take into account the "British understatement" factor whenever this man speaks or is quoted, but honestly? He just takes the wind out of my sails with this seeming (key word) lack of vision and lack of aggression in his tone.

I sincerely hope that's all a feint and a ruse.

Listen, Mr. CEO of Sony: You can MAKE BD the standard anytime you feel like it, especially with your BDA partners and everyone knows it.

So make it happen.

Could someone plaease explain what you are complaining about?

Blu-ray does have momentun, that's it, nothing is 100% secure, unless that is you believe the Warner deal is already signed and sealed nut is being hushed up.

With desperation comes desperate comments, Blu-ray don't have to resort to such cheap tactics, while combating ignorant, HD-DVD FUDsters is the least of my worries!

It's not the words themselves, it's the attitude that it protrays towards the format war... If you were going into battle, would you want your general to say, "yeah we have momentum, but that's all we have".... yeah now I'm super syked to go fight! thanks boss!

This is clearly out of context people. The quotes are segmented and do not string together. They are picking and choosing the wrong statements for their report to make BD look bad. I know he did not say this, and it is not the first this has happened to him either. The press loves to twist things to make it look bad.

I have to agree. Warner knows the Harry Potter pre-order numbers. I don't think B&M sales will matter that much in any decision. This is it for the year. Stringer is not going to stir the pot. Warner will announce whatever Warner's intentions are. If they go Blu, that would still be momentum.

I disagree. These HD-DVD fanboys are running around spouting that Sony's CEO has given up, blah blah. Not needed when the sales margin is still 2:1 in the U.S.

He should just say nothing, that would be much more help during this crucial holiday shopping season.

I'm thinking that's what happened 100%. After watching friend of mine on that reality TV show, "Rock of Love", I know understand the power of taking things out of context.

Exactly, also keep this in mind
Warner produced and shipped out estimated qty's to meet consumer demand.

You know what that means...2:1 right off the bat.
